Anybody have any experience with this trick? From what I've read, it sound pretty cool. I've searched over and over again for a video of the performance, but can't find one for the life of me. Does anybody know of a video of this trick? Also, those of you who have it or have worked with it, would you recommend this? The price is slightly high, so I thought I'd do my research before jumping into it.

Thanks,
Matt

This is a different version of the McComical Decks. No video required. This is a classic plot and will go over well with any audience. If you do not want to use the Regular playing card or Jumbo playing cards versions then this is an alterative to playing cards.

It is plot that the joke is on the audience. The spectator on stage is completely un-aware of how the tables were turned on the audience.

Simply put it is a mental matching card routine. Self working with built in comedy.

David Copperfield did a version years back on one of his television specials with Music Record Album Covers. It was the idea of Don Wayne and sold in magic stores.

There aren't many tricks that can be performed on stage that are funny AND get gasps of amazement at the conclusion, but Mona Lisa McComb is one of them! I did this in a College stage show (about 700 in the audience) a couple of weeks ago and it got screams at the end!

You will probably have to modify the handling, though. I've performed the regular Jumbo playing card version for about 30 years and am fairly set in my ways. I just couldn't do it as described in the booklet that comes with it. It seemed very clumsy and unnatural. I do a D----- L--- for the prediction card - MUCH easier than the method suggested. Also, I perform the selection in a completely different way - too hard to describe, but it's natural to me.

If you do get this, use a black Sharpie to go over all the white edges - this makes it possible to do confidently at close range.

Be aware that the trick no longer comes with a carry case, hence the reduction in price.

If you are prepared to work at this until your handling is totally natural, it's a killer.

Bill Abbott has a routine that comes with his blank smart ass deck that is killer for smaller stage. It uses playing card size cards that you draw the object on yourself. If you own one of the vanishing coke bottles then the effect just becomes that much better.

I personally have three versions, one with Jumbo Cards, one with Cereal Box covers and one with the small SA deck so I am set for any size stage I may work or even closeup.

It is a very funny routine that is in all my shows.

Hello Matt:

I once had the effect, but sold it. It is beautifully made, but is strictly a stage routine. Most of my performances are in homes, and I don't think you can do it with spectators close up. I love the idea of the paintings instead of cards, but went back to my Jumbo McCombical deck because I can do it anywhere.

I hope this helps you.

Matt, I used one for a very long time until the apparatus began to wear out, I sold my extra one when I changed my act.
The effect always plays good and never fails to get a laugh. It is better to be used as a club/platform/stage effect due to the size.
The only thing I would say is the effect is well worth the price, but I liked to have seen the apparatus make of a more durable material.
I would still buy one because it is a sure hit, check around the come up for sale here on the Café, and ebay from time to time.

I bought one and used it for about 6 months. Didn't fit me, or my character, so I sold it off. I think it was well made and plays well, but like I said, didn't fit me. My show is Concentrated Insanity . It just didn't fit.
