I can't remember where I learned it from, probably ETMCM. But is there anyway to make this a less painful trick to do?

Painful? You're hurting yourself with the Gun Trick?
Yes, that is my real name. Yes, I am a real person. No, you probably won't agree with me.

Yes. When I flick that card, to make the other shoot out of the deck, my finger hurts after.

With practice you can probably hit the card with your fingernail each time instead of the finger. I imagine that it wouldn't hurt.

Daryl teaches a version that doesn't require a faro and you don't have to flick the "bullet" with your finger (yes it always hurts). He teaches it in his current lecture. I'm not sure where he has it in print or video.

I just smack the bottom card/base of the deck with my fingers palm upwards. I found flicking it with my finger caused the card to miss the table and end on the floor.

The gun trick is an idea of Peter Kane. Practice until you hit the card with your nail only every time.

Might I suggest a different trick? It's a fun card location but it's not THAT good a trick.

For some reason people love it... If I show someone the gun trick, then raise rise, they'll only remember the gun trick...

Hmmm they don't seem to spin as quickly or as stable as with a flick...

Not sure if it will make a difference when I first started doing this trick I interlaced the cards there full width now when I twist them I have them only inserted about 1/3 of the way across the bottom half.

It's "exciting" and doesn't make them feel "fooled." If you want something that's visually interesting, and a deeper mystery, Pete Biro has an interesting card rising effect using a pencil and an envelope. And it doesn't hurt your finger to do it... Hopefully Pete can tell you where to find it (besides the place I learned it). Pete, you got lecture notes or something? |

Wduncan good suggestion I had forgotten about Pete's rising card effect. It can be found in Vol 7. of Tarbell course.
