I commented on another post, but I thought it may be buried there and I think this is an important enough resource to new magicians that it merits its own post. I have been working on a guide of Brick and Mortar shops around the world. It is up-to-date and includes over 200 shops in 22 countries (and 33 states in the US).
I am working on a review and rating system as well but its not ready yet. If you find missing, incomplete info, or the shop is no longer in business (yes, it does happen) you can use the "Report Listing" link. Also, please do submit any ones that may have been missed. http://magicgizmo.com/home/Magic-Shop-Locator/

Useful to anyone really, although I'm partial to Grand Illusions in Carmichael California (suburb of Sacramento.) Thank you m.reutz. -Mary Mowder |

This is a really good idea. How are you planning on reviewing all these shops, will you be relying on customer feedback etc.

The Review and Rating system will provide feedback from people like you and me whi visit the shops. I hope to get this working soon but have run into some technical issues. The report listing feature will be very important as old shops close or move and you can report this information.

Will try and spread the word of the site - like everything, it can only improve with age. Very kind. |

This is really helpful. I was in other cities twice this month and couldn't find magic shops. Today I found your post here on the forum! You also have already shown me two places near my home that I'd never seen or heard about. Thanks very much!

Tennessee is misspelled.
For Chattanooga Magic and Fun, the Google map link isn’t showing the right location, but I don’t think that’s something you can fix. I’ve played with it and it keeps putting Barry’s shop on a bridge in the middle of the Tennessee River. Hmmm… Still, a great resource. Thanks for doing this!

Every time I find myself in a new town I find a phone book and go through the yellow pages hoping to find a magic shop to visit. I can't even begin to tell you how frustrating this can be. Either I show up to see that the shop has been closed for some time or end up in a store that in no way specializes in magic. They may have two or three effects or kits targeting children and that's it. In my hometown the yellow pages actually show a shop that closed over three years ago.
I love this idea and hope that there is enough support to keep it going. |

Thank you m.rutez! I was pleased to see Magic Dove Magic Shop in Cocoa Florida listed. The Brick and Mortar shops need to be supported and we applause your efforts to help us to be found. Thank you again.

MagicDove.com As a univesity professor in special education I advocate the use magic to increase self-esteem of children with disabilities. Also, many magic tricks can easily be tied to academic lessons. More importanly, magic can be used to create friendships with children with and without disabilities. |

Thanks for all the support. If you see one that is no longer vlaid (which does and will happen) please use the Report Listing link on the listing. This way things are kept up to date.

M.ruetz,
Great idea and I'm sure it will come to be appreciated by others as they run into this forum topic. I can't imagine the time you've invested in getting this up and running, but I want to say "thank you". I found out there's a shop near me in TN that I was not aware of until seeing this topic. Keep up the good work!!! |
