I would like one dove...Are they hard to come by in Japan?

I know of a few dove workers that travel from Canada and the United States to perform in Japan. They leave their birds at home due to restrictions and regulations. Then when they arrive, they have set up for the use of doves from other magicians in Japan. So there has to be some sort of Breeder or other magicians that would have some birds or a bird for sale. Suggest that you deepen your internet search for dove magicians in Japan. Even Look up Magic Organizations such as IBM. and search for doves in those clubs. Good luck

Doves are sold in pairs only by magic bird breeders. Having one is not recommended. They are social birds and need be together. Pet Shops sell doves and will sell only one.
You will need a cage at least 2 feet by 2 feet to keep one bird. |

There is nothing wrong with keeping just one bird. I know many magicians who have only had one bird their entire career. Doves are sold in pairs if you want to breed yourself. I would never recommend buying a dove from a pet shop. There are too many unkowns to make it a wise purchase. A 2 x 2 foot cage is fine for 2 birds but no more. The positioning of the perches is critical in a small cage however. They must have room to flap their wings and get a little excercise.

My information was passed on to my from the late Doug Collins from Battle Creek, MI, a Fireman and Dove Breeder.
Dave, What do you mean by "but no more"? |

Wm, I lived in Michigan just outside of Battle Creek for years and knew Doug. He was always helpful. It's just been my experience that what I said in my response was correct.
As for my comment of "but no more" I should have written more in the sentence. What I meant was that if you use a 2 foot x 2 foot cage, you shouldn't put any more than 2 doves in it.

Doug collins is truly missed,He always had drovs of doves. I remember going to his aviary, and culling thru the masses of doves to take home for training. A good man.
