I will be doing strolling magic (casual situation), at a private party for a big majority of the Japanese Olympic Ski team (YAY!). Because of special guest list, all being skiiers and all, I am trying to put together some ski/ snow/ winter themed tricks.
I do a fun "all in the hands" Blizzard variation by Tony Chang (unpublished), and will do "handful of water changed to Ice" as done by Cyril. I am looking for some fun other ideas. Perhapse if anyone can think of an iForce idea that is focused around winter/ snow/ skiing, etc... that would be nice. Or perhapse, white sponge balls? Though I have never seen those and doubt I could get them here in Tokyo before the party (December 7th). In any case, I am up for anything. Maybe a salt and TT demonstration? but instead of salt, something a bit more "snowy" like powdered sugar or something? Flour? ewww. what a mess that would create =/ Cheers Eric / Satoeri |

Hello Eric
How about Michael Ammar's trick of freezing a signed card (apologies, I can't remember the name and I'm not home to check). Also, Jay Sankey had an effect in Real Work on Restaurants and Bars of producing an ice cube from whatever the audience happened to be drinking. Hope this helps

I just had a kinda crazy idea.
If I go to the venue a bit early, or the day before, and have the bartender/ staff freeze a card for me in ice, then during the show, I can force a dupe, do an ambitious routine etc... or a force routine, and at the end vanish the card. At the same moment, have the staff bring me a drink "on the house" for the spectator as a thanks for participating, and in the glass will the their card frozen in ice. I havent had an idea on how I could have it signed, but... I still think it would be a strong effect, if not just really fun. Any ideas on how to add to this? or improve it? |

Yes, Michael Ammar used a signed card - with a very clever double bluff at the end. I would suggest you see his "The Magic of Michael Ammar".

Maybe you can do some mental word association game that ends up with a water/ice/snow-sport as the final outcome or use the theme in a thought chunnel effect (that last one would take a considerable effort, though)

Just one thought!
I like the idea of theming, but don´t forget they are just humans - do the stuff you already do! imagine me comming to japan and just because I think I have to theme it, I start only doing things with an asian topic - that would look quite strange and maybe silly. I few bits could be appreciated, but just as icing on the cake - not more! maybe you understand what i´m speaking about! rené |

Snow powder or slush powder could be used for some snow themed magic

Renricker- I totally agree. I of course am going to do my regular routines/ material. I am also hoping to play a little bit to the clientele and throw a little bit extra in that will allow them to connect in one more deeper way. However, I think I have found enough things that will allow me to do this. I will do a simple "ski patrol and lost skiier" sandwitch routine, a blizzard routine, and a water to ice performance.
Thank you for your help everyone. I am still open to new ideas, as I am always trying to learn new things for future gigs. |

Did my show last night! MY GF took some videos of the performances that I will upload to vimeo later. They are a little dark, and I am performing all in Japanese, but had some really good reactions.
As for some "snow/ ski" related ideas. I did a sandwitch routine, but instead of jokers/ queens, etc... I printed some "ski patrol" pictures and put them on blank face cards, and did a "ski patrol finding a lost skiier" routine. That totally floored the crowd, and they went crazy =). After that, I did a version of Jim Pace's "Web" but had the first phase of a mountain, than a snow storm came and hit the mountain, and then the abominal snow man came to the mountain. So instead of a spider appearing on their hand, I had a small white fuzz ball with cute eyes =). I of course later did the real "Web" for some unspecting beautiful females =). Everything else was just my regular sets, etc... I'm sad that I couldn't find pure white sponge balls =(. |
