I explained the situation to the agent, and he said that he might be able to get me half the fee. I told him no thanks, that I had done a great job, that they had loved it, so send me the whole fee or send me nothing and don't call again.
And nothing was exactly what I received. Now the embarrassing part. Got a call a few years later from "HeyTom: how ya doing? This is Larry; you available this Saturday, 12:30A-3:30A for an after-prom on the beach in Betterton? They want a juggler." Checked my calendar, said yes, and when the contract arrived Friday by fax, realized that "Larry" was you-know-who. Upshot: did the job, juggled three hours even though 1/2 hour was plenty for the grads and a switch to balloons would have been perfect, and cashed the check. Moral: At the end of 'Chicago', Velma suggests a partnership with Roxie, who says no "because I hate you!" Velma's answer? "There's only one business where that's no problem at all." |
