I have been doing Reformation for quite a while now. In fact, it has become one of my signature effects.

This past Saturday, I was at this party when I decided to do it for some people. All was going well, and the crowd was duly impressed. At the conclusion of the effect I noticed there had been a guy standing behind me for at least part of it. As everyone was muttering to themselves how amazing this looked, the guy who was behind me came forward and said, "I was standing BEHIND him and I STILL couldn't see how he did it!"

Now I don't know if he was just giving the rest of the crowd a line, or if he genuinely couldn't see the modus operandi, but having this additional verification did a wonderful job of further impressing the crowd. So much so that I've considered having a stooged "observer" behind me for future performances.

Great story, Geoff. I'm not sure having a stooge behind you would be a good idea though. The audience might wonder why you'd go to the trouble of having someone stand behind you instead of just showing them the back of the card through each phase (though you do get to do it once in the Reformation).

Maybe it is proof that if you are a genuinely good and likable performer you create instant-stooges that will "hype up" your show?

I had something similar when a guy accidently plucked my floating ring out of the air. He dropped it out of his hand saying it was hot. Rest of the audience almost turned into believers after that...
