Hello,

I'm thinking of picking up a Temple Screen? Are they practical for producing rabbits? If so or if not, either way, what are they practical for?

Thanks in advance.

The Temple Screen is nice production effect. Use them for producing silks, rope, drinking glasses, bottles, streamers, eggs, rope, garland, spring flowers, hat coils, etc. Not suitable for a rabbit do to size and weight.

Do to the fold design, you can show both sides of the 3 panel screen. Producing from both sides if you wish.

They have a side angle problem so if you're in a home try to set yourself-up at the narrow side of the room and/or keep people from sitting on your sides.

I have used them for a 4 pound rabbit. Some rabbits will sit quietly and some will not. Covering the rabbit with a silk (momentarily) may stop them from jumping out and then again maybe not.

The good part is they fold flat for transpo.

A "reloadable" temple screen or four-sided screen like Jim Gerrish's Chimney Screen in his "Hardboard and Duct Tape Magic Book 1" CAN be used with a rabbit as the second load, but I can't discuss it openly without exposing the nature of the "reloadable" function.

With a little binder tape and clear acetate film on the panels, a printed theme can be slipped in and the temple screen can be used for a variety of themes. I own three and a small rabbit can be produced. For a larger rabbit, a bigger temple screen needs to be designed.

I don't think I will ever get my Temple Screen back from my wife! She borrowed it about ten years ago.

I used to always produce my rabbit from a Temple Screen. I would have it folded flat on a table with a black table cloth with silver trim around the edges that hung down about 5 inches. I would put just a single silk over the rabbit. (If you put more, then it might become difficult for the rabbit to breathe and don't fold it over the rabbit. Just a single layer) As long as the rabbit's sight is hindered, then it is nervous about jumping down. Then I would lift up the screen so that it stood up on the table, show both sides and start pulling silks from around the sides of the rabbit. I had the silks actually loaded below the rabbit except for the one I put on top. Then after I would produce the silks, I would say "Now there's a rabbit in here". Then I would pull out a flat cloth rabbit. Everyone would be surprised that it wasn't real and say "Aaawww" with disappointment. I would say "You didn't expect a live rabbit did you? I had this flat on the table and that would crush a live rabbit." Then after the dissapointing moment, I would put the flat rabbit back into the screen (pushing down between the bag and the rabbit and say "I tell you what. Say the magic words and blow some air up here and we'll try to inflate the rabbit. At the end, I would pull the live rabbit out. Warning though, when using a live rabbit, it's best to wait till the end of the show because once you produce the rabbit, then everyone's attention is on the rabbit. Even if you're trying to do some more effects afterwards. One funny story: The very first time I decided to use a rabbit production in the Temple Screen, I would also pull out sponge hotdogs and rope besides the silks. When I had pulled the silks out and started to pull the rope out, the rabbit came out with it. She had bitten and literally clamped down on the rope. I actually thought at first that the rope was stuck underneath her was the reason it was so hard to get out. Anyway, the rabbit production happened just a little bit earlier than expected that time.
