What's the name of the effect where you show five (or six cards), mostly court cards; you ask the spec. to focus on one. After that, you remove one card. You show the cards and the one which had the spec. in mind has disappeared.
(Actually all the cards are different from the first shown cards - moderator, if I'm revealing to much, skip this last sentence.)

The Princess Card Trick (and a large number of variations) has been described in numerous places. An early version is written up in Encyclopedia of Card Magic (Edited by Hugard). I am sure Café members could provide many other sources.

Anyone interested in the plot would be well advised to obtain the Bill Wisch DVD on the effect from Elmwood Magic (or Bill)which shows some very clever modern approaches and thinking to the routine. Note, I have no connection to Elmwood Magic or Bill.
A very old plot, it was a favorite of Nate Leipzig, and I think it was discussed in the book "Small But Deadly". Paul. |

Also check out Gordon Bean and Larry Jennings' "Limited Edition" in which the mentally selected card isn't removed but turns blank.

Gordon extended the 1995 "Limited Edition" a few years ago with "New Limited Edition". You can see a description here:

Thanks for the mention Paul! I really like the design of Bill's cards - as well as his "Simple Focus" routine. You can find the Bill Wisch DVD and card set, called "Royal Redo" here:

I've made my own packet of this trick, by splitting and glueing cards. So I have a packet of six double-facers. It's a good feeling, making stuff yourself.
