This morning I was telling Donna about this dream I had last night, about this huge themed shopping mall I was exploring. I mean the place was huge.
Anyway, I've noticed over the years that the physical environments in my dreams are unbelievably detailed. I'm into architecture and design, so I can understand why that would be (to a point), but really, when you can see cracks in brick and stone facades, rust on metal, patina on bronze, carvings and sculptures, terrazzo floors, and so on and on, it gets pretty weird... or world-class anal. And of course it's all in living color. Anybody else have this happen to them?

Even as a kid I had incredibly detailed dreams. Most were in color and some played out like a movie. Oh, and that old wives' tale about not dying in your dream is not true... I've died in plenty of my dreams... many times in a very dramatic way.
I remember having one dream that actually ended with the words THE END. Recently I was sick with a kidney stone and starting having a strange pattern in my dreams: I would be trying to solve a problem or accomplish some sort of task. I then wake up in the middle of the dream and rush to the bathroom... kidneys calling. Somehow in my waking state I continue to think about what was going on in the dream as if it were a real problem to solve. As I'm awake I solve the problem then go back to sleep. The dream would continue and now I could solve the problem with the new knowledge I brought into that landscape. It's been like that for almost two weeks now. Another weird thing about me is that I've always loved horror movies and horror stories. They don't bother me and I have fun in them. Whenever I have a nightmare, and wake up in a cold sweat, I start chuckling almost immediately by the fact that I scared myself at that moment. I consider it a cheap thrill and actually look forward to nightmares. But then again, I'm crazy. greg

Interesting. Thanks for your comments.
I've had the experience with solving problems in my dreams too, but it's more like I have a problem in real life and solve it in my dream, or dream about something that leads me to the solution when I wake up.

Any magic-related dreams out there? Last night, I dreamed I was in the company of magicians wanting to perform a card effect (specifically, 'the visitor' by Larry Jennings). Unfortunately, I couldn't find a deck, and so tried using ... postage stamps and pieces of paper. Then I did find a deck, but it was one of those gaffed decks that was split in half. I woke up laughing, so it wasn't really a nightmare! Curious what other magic themed dreams are out there. Lynn

I have had dreams of being an actor about to walk on stage and suddenly realizing I didn't know my lines.

Sometimes, very vivid ones. Mainly, I have noticed when I get too warm. I guess the heat must trigger some kind of fever dream chemical in the brain.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

As a child, I had a handful of recurring nightmares. One in particular was similar to what George described, i.e. me traveling through an incredibly detailed, surrealistic construction. Each of my different nightmares was always the same sequence of events, ending with me terrified and waking up in a cold sweat.
But one such dream actually became a reality many years later. It was an incredible feeling of de ja vu when I realized that the events unfolding at that very moment were exactly as I had experienced them in my childhood dream. P.S. Greg ... I've always been a horror movie buff, too! But I prefer the "old" ones with real gripping plot development, as opposed to many of today's "shock tactics" horror films. |

I had a dream about a guy I was friends with, but had not seen for over ten years. We had just drifted apart. The dream was friendly in nature with him helping me solve a simple problem. Overall a very pleasant dream.
The next day I got a call that he had just had a heart attack and died the day before. That was a jaw dropper for sure.

I used to occasionally dream of a room full of tchotchke like in the Movie Return to OZ in the Gnome Kings trinket room.
This was well before I ever saw that movie (but not before I'd been read the story). The details were incredible. It was as if I were there. I could see, touch and even smell some of the objects (kind of a camphor smell, old books and some other wood type smells). I was surprised to feel that the marble objects felt colder than say a glass or crystal object. I later heard that that could actually be true. Probably something I'd heard or experienced and forgotten. Lynnef, I often dream of being called upon to Magic session at Magic conventions and having multiple versions of lousy decks that just won't work, ropes that are made of twine, no key ring, etc.... and Larry Jennings has been in a couple of those dreams, so weird. I have actually performed one of Larry's effects for him (a simple one) and he was very supportive. I wish I'd dream THAT over and over again. I have often had very short glimpses of Magic as I am waking that have been very productive. That is to say, I see an effect or a move that turns into something good but it needed work to make it come true (or some version of that). If we have that kind of processing power in our dreams why can't I remember where I put my car keys? Proof that I'm only using 20% of my brain… and it isn't the best 20% either. -Mary Mowder |

My 18 year old dog died on Monday last week. He was frail towards the end, and for the last two years or so hadn't been able to climb the stairs in our house. Whenever I was working in the basement, he would look longingly down at me (and sometimes I carried him down in my arms so we could be together).
Anyway, just two nights ago he was in my dreams, running up and down those stairs. He was having so much fun! I took it to be a sign that he was finally free of all the old aches and pains and limitations of a physical body. |

He was found near Kennedy Airport at around age 2, and was scheduled to be exterminated the next day. The vet we took him to thought Zorro was a Dachshund/Rottweiler mix ... so we called him a "Rottweiner." He went EVERYWHERE with us. The NYC subway, Times Square, he visited us at our jobs, he came to all the big recording studios, we even went to Ground Zero the morning after the attacks (before they cordoned the area off) with Zorro under our arms. (We didn't want to leave him in our apartment because we didn't know if we'd be able to get back). He's been on plane flights, on mountains, at the ocean, at a magic convention, and even in restaurants where they normally don't allow dogs, but because he was so well-behaved, the owners let him sit with us. And every "tough guy" construction worker or sanitation truck driver would call out, "Yo, Zorro!" whenever we passed by. We also took him to nursing homes where he cheered up a lot of old folks. Towards the end, our Zorro was no longer black and tan ... but rather black and white! He was weak and frail and could hardly walk anymore. But he still had tremendous spirit! He would suddenly become a puppy again and chase his cats. It's going to take some getting used to him being gone, because for the last 16 years, every decision we made in life revolved around him. I feel privileged to have known him, and actually don't think of Zorro as a dog, but because he was so intelligent, I regarded him more as a human being trapped in a dog's body. |

PMed you Arthur.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

If you want to know what it's like to dream with vivid detail try the nicotine patch. When I quit smoking I used the patch for several months. The dreams I had were so bizarre, vivid, three dimensional, and without any sense of reality, and yet they weren't nightmarish. They are a side effect of the patch; I'd bet any other smokers out there who have used the patch will say the same thing.

Great stuff guys!
Who said you need a physical body to see, hear and think in incredible detail?? Kam

Actors have that exact dream or one which they are naked on stage. Waiters and waitresses have dreams in which the restaurant is full and they're trying to help all the tables at once or can't keep up with orders or plates and glasses keep dropping and smashing. I'm assuming there might be a reference somewhere that ties specific dreams to specific jobs and can be used for cold reads. Greg

As a teacher, I am plagued by the dream of being in front of a class with no lesson prepared. This is something that in reality I would not do.
