So I get home tonight and the following email was waiting for me. I thought you guys would enjoy the read...
---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey Mr. Lyle! I have a 7 year old son who is in the 2nd grade. We have seen you many times at Crystal's and he thinks you're the bomb as far as magicians go. Anyway, He has a Christmas school project where he has to decorate a penguin as a famous person and write a story about his character. He wanted to dress his penguin up as a magician. I asked him, "who's the most famous magician in the world?" He said, "Christopher the magic guy at Crystal's!" So now he wants to dress his penguin up like you. I pulled up your website to get your picture (to paste to our penguin's face) and I can't get one to print off of your website. If you don't mind, would you be able to e-mail me a picture of you? If not, I understand. But if so, then we'll be sure to let all the little kids in his class know where to find you if they want to come see the most famous magician in the world! -------------------------------------------------------------- Guess I better go send this kid a photo. LOL! Hmmm...a penguin. Ehhh...I've been called worse! Christopher

LOL!!!!!!!!!! That's freakin' hilarious!!! New spokesperson for Penguin Magic?? At least they're putting you in a tux, eh?? Ha-ha!!
Several years ago, there was a type of handmade doll that you could find in craft shows. They were called "Time-out Kids". They had their hands and arms positioned up high with their heads buried in them, so when they were stood in a corner with their backs turned, they looked like a little kid being punished in "time-out". Anyway, one day I went into a restuarant where I worked, and saw this little miniature time-out kid in the corner, and IT WAS ME!! Had the right kind of clothes & hat, and all the "stuff" in the pockets that I commonly used in my act. My very own three foot tall Michael Baker action figure! Kind of creepy, though........

Sounds like this lady could write you quite the testimonial letter especially if a picture of the finished project accompanied the letter.

I'm glad everyone enjoyed this...
UPDATE!!!!! I got an email from his mother tonight. The project is DONE! She sent me a photo of the penguin and the story he wrote to go along with it. However, the story was in Word Perfect format (who still used Word Perfect????) so I couldn't open it. She's going to copy it to a word doc and resend sometime in the next few days. When I have the story, I'll be sure to post it up for everyone to read. Should be a hoot! Christopher

You should put the photo on your website.
If you're good with computer graphics - or know someone who is - you could have the penguin "you" morph into the human "you". That'd look cool! |

WOW!!! Really...??? Man, I had no idea. I just figured Word Perfect was out the door back in the mid 1990s. I don't think I've even seen it on the shelves in a decade...not that I've been lookin' for it! HA!

If that was me, I'd speak to his parents/teacher and show up to do a supprise 10 min for his class at school. The enjoyment he would get (plus the possible future bookings if you do kids magic) would make it worth the time tenfold.
nice story |

UPDATE!
I got home today and awaiting me in my inbox was a photo of the penguin along with the story. Here is the penguin: http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p377/......Lyle.jpg and here is the story that was written by this young 2nd grader: The Magic Day by Will McVey December 11, 2009 It was a Magical time at Crystal’s – Little Frankie’s Birthday! He’d waited all year for his birthday magic show and finally it was time to begin. The most famous magician in the town was there to thrill the young audience with his magic... Christopher Lyle, the coolest magic penguin in the world. It was an afternoon filled with magic cards, a special magic wand, and magic coins. Frankie’s favorite magic trick was when Christopher Lyle swallowed the famous flaming marshmallows! When the kids saw the marshmallows, they got hungry. They shouted, “We want pizza! We want pizza! We want pizza!” When Christopher Lyle looked around, he was surprised to find that the pizza chef had left for the day. What to do??? He doesn’t make pizza. He only makes magic. Then a thought came into his magical head, “Ah! I can make pizza with my magic!” So he took the magical top hat off of his head and pulled out... a rabbit!? It did make the kids laugh, but they kept on shouting, “We want pizza! We want pizza! We want pizza!” Next, he pulled out his magic cards. But that wasn’t right, either. And the kids kept shouting, “We want pizza! We want pizza! We want pizza!” He thought very hard, “Think, think, think! I need to focus on my Hocus Pocus!” So he grabbed his magic wand and stirred inside the top hat. He sang, “Pizza... Pizza.. Make a pizza...” Before long, a giant hot pizza appeared from the top hat. The crowd went nuts! They had never eaten a MAGIC pizza before. Little Frankie cheered and told Christopher Lyle that it was the best pizza he’d ever tasted before in his life. The End.
