There's actually a really good effect using the Elmsley count and envelopes by Roy Walton. Does anyone remember the name of that trick? I'm away from the library now.

Hi. Does an effect that uses quite a few elmsley counts qualify? If so, my vote would go to "heart attack" by Stephen Tucker. Smart and multi layered, yet not hard to perform . Starts by sparking curiosity in your audience, works smoothly and ends with a double kicker. It's in the extra section of his whiplash dvd
And that's the end of my first post on the forum! |

Thanks for mentioning my Four Card Reiteration (aka "Four For Spot"). It is clear this particular 'move' with a small number of cards can be used for a variety of effects, such as 'card repeat' (as my routine above), transpositions, oil and water, mentalism, magic reversals (twisting routines), etc.
I think, besides my routine, I've always felt Jazz Aces was one of the finest impromptu card routines. The variation of Peter Kane's classic, called "A Different Sound" (in one of the Mentzer Card Cavalcade books), is one of the most visual of all transposition effects with ungaffed cards (but 2 contrasting sets of four duplicates are used, fully examinable before and after). Sorry, can't remember the creator of this one. Maybe it was Darwin's. If it was yours, sir, please forgive my unsure memory.

I always follow "Twisting the Aces" with "Vernon't Variant"--a clever you do as I do that also uses the Elmsley Count. The segue is "Look you take the aces, I'll take these indifferent cards. Do what I do. It won't work for you, because you have the aces and they'll twist on you..."

Cant overlook MacDonalds Ace's either, good effect little bit of Elmsley counting but nothing too major.

You might want to check out another thread - Aldo Colombini's The Counselors. The basis of this pretty magical routine is Elmsley Counts. HL.
