To have alternatives is a good thing in constructing your own routine. It can accomodate your skill level and comfort zone so you also perform within yourself.
Nice thing about a complete vanish where appropriate at the end of a coin routine is that it can also serve as a kind of finale. You are doing a trick in the process. If you happen to have started with nothing then you come full circle which is also nice. Nothing quite so clean as a complete vanish when in final display at the end of your routine - and managing the last coin can be THE perfect use for this deceit. Sleeving....hurray sleeving!
To see a difficult thing lightly handled gives the impression of the impossible.

A quick 'hand wash' works too.

This is not what you are striving for.

I'll probably place the magnet in my Joshua Jay Pro Carrier and let the coin stick to the bottom. Heck, if you are wearing one of these little card fanny packs you could simply ditch the coin in it.

My way of ditching the last coin is to use the "little hand", great reactions from that. Or just a simple hand wash :]

Hey Michael,
Where is this technique taught on the New York Coin Magic DVD series? |

Ray, check out the bonus section in volume four, there is a section on it where this technique is taught in detail, and tricks that use the technique can be found on vol 4 and vol 7.

I personally vanish the last coin (actually a s***l) and just keep it in palm and holdout while the effect comes to a close. There's no rush to ditch it (apparently the effect is already over) and I only ditch it when I go to retrieve the purse from my pocket to keep the coins.

Before I grew whiskers I was told, "the easiest coin to vanish is the one that never was." Look into ways to get "one behind" such that the audience thinks you have another coin (or any object)at the end than you actually do. Poof!

Get close to someone for the final vanish, and ditch it in THEIR pocket.
A little later on, bring out a duplicate coin do a simple vanish, and show it has re-appreared in their jacket, (or whatever). Bruce |

Or take the easy way out... don't finish with a routine that uses an extra coin.
On the World's Greatest Magic Coins Across DVD you can learn how Eddie Fechter managed to get rid of the extra coin before the routine was done so there was zero clean up necessary at the end. If you can find a copy of my (out of print) booklet Tubthumping to borrow, there's a coins across routine that uses the extra object principle without an extra coin. |

Yes, find Bill Duncan's "Tubthumping".
His sneaky idea for the 'Psychological Coins Across' makes it very convincing. And you can borrow the coins. |

Thanks Leko.
I should clarify... since what I posted is incorrect. There is an extra coin, you just don't have to hide it. I should have written "without a hidden extra coin" |

I will echo what a previous poster said about the Spider Vanish. Very deceptive. I used it for Roth's Coins Across, and though I know about it, I am sometimes fooled by it myself when someone else does it well.

You received really good advice
Sh**l as in Michael Ammar's Shadow coins or handling by David Roth or Dean Dill, Mike Gallo's Siamese coins Hoo coin BlackOut by Platt is an excellent method but is not sleeving (contrary to one statement) Some people used the Fol**ng coin with a TT or a Sanada Gimmick Ditching; Gregory Wilson's All Around vanish in his DVD "Off The Cuff" and a Norwegian magician called Jarle Leirpoll produced a DVD on ditching called "Pocket Power". Al Schneider in his Al Schneider technique is also using pocket ditching in the outer breast pocket. Our new generation magician with the Vernon touch, Eric Jones, is also a source Since the question referred to family situations: lap it. That started in Hocus Pocus Jr but you would find better detailed instruction in Karl Fulves books on Slydini. Bobo's Modern Coin Magic, Chapter VII, pp107-111. Dr. E.M. Roberts method for sleeving is the one that makes the most sense but you could do a Pumpkin seed vanish which is one of the easiest. If you search in this direction, Ross Bertram is a great source. There are also precious DVDs by Rocco Silano or Carl Cloutier Michael Rubinstein is too modest: each of the DVDs by The New York guys supply what you are after and a serious coin worker should have them all When I'm doing a magnetic ditching, instead of the back pocket I put the magnet in my Jacket's sleeve (inner part of the arm above the elbow) and tug my sleeve before showing the hands empty. If I'm wearing a T-shirt (rare for me) I place it along the ribs under the left forearm (then vanish by the opposite elbow as in Slydini's one coin routine) Spider Grip vanish + Bob Kohler's quick Clean Up (or Tim Feher's Clean Up both don't look like Hand Washing) Then in the Topit series you may want to remember the tie as well (there are nice ones at Nielsen and a German magician is also selling very decent looking ones) In the hold Out you have the Invisible Hand, the Raven, the Geiko... but the best in the Jack Miller type is most probably Antonio Romero's one Then there are all kinds of blue tack and similar to ditch on third parties: Eddie Joseph made a booklet on ditching on spectator's body and now Apollo Robbins does it on the spectator's shoulder. Now I agree that the best method is that your magic should get away from the "catch me if you can" type: the best misdirection is "meaning"
Magic is the art of emotionally sharing live impossible situations

He had to TELL me he never had that coin, and then I had trouble believing him...
