I have been practicing this production several hours a day for about 2 weeks now. It's very smooth in person (especially in front of the mirror). I am trying to get it as smooth as stone's, and I think its almost there. Everytime I see him do it still fries me, I think its good but still not quite as good as his. I still practice it. Here's a video of it. It's called "The Stone production.". Its very visual. Please understand for some reason (I think its the angle of the camera) this is a trick that seems hard to do brilliantly on my webcam, it looks better in the mirror honestly. For most tricks it would seem the opposite is true, but not this one. Please tell me what you think, I worked hard on this!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZ6QST9qXJc Thanks PS: Any tips/suggestions appreciated! I want to get this just as smooth as stone's! I want to fool myself in the mirror when I do it. That's one reason I do not think it's not perfect yet, I can't fool myself!

Sticks,
Interesting choice of moves to work on; we don't see this kind of manipulative magic very much any more. The original stage handling used a stack of coins (without the transfer as you turn the hand over, of course). The above suggestion about the thumb is quite correct, but needs to be taken a bit further. In order for the move to look really good, you MUST take that thumb off the coin, if even for a brief moment. Once the coin is moved from Downs Palm to rear clip, lift the thumb and relax the hand, even bending at the wrist a bit and allowing the fingers to curl just a tad. Then bring the thumb up and produce the coin at the fingertips. This brief moment of relaxation will make all the difference in the world. |

Because you can see the half dollar through the fingers, and since it's now in backlip its a bit harder to produce. I will continue to perfect it though! Thanks! Well, some people will tell you that it doesn't matter and that laypeople never see that stuff anyway. But it does need to be addressed. So...where is the coin showing? If it shows between the first and second fingers, the back clip isn't being executed correctly. The coin should actually lie at an angle close to the back of the fingers, not sticking straight out at a right angle from the back of the hand. In order to do this, though, you have to move the forefinger back in small increments until you have a secure grip on the coin and the coin lies at that close angle. By moving the forefinger back just enough, it will actually be just a hair behind the second finger, which ensures that the coin cannot be seen between these two fingers. If the coin shows between the second and third fingers while in backclip, the answer isn't always just to press these fingers harder together. It can be, but some people have fingers that are shaped so that the windows between them will never close. The answer instead is to curl the third and fourth fingers just a bit. The side of the third fingertip actually contacts the second finger at the line of the first joint (or close to it, depending on your physiognomy). This not only gives a relaxed and more open look to the hand, but it absolutely kills any gaps between the fingers, since the third finger can now move very slightly UP behind the second finger, closing any openings from lines of sight (and when I say "slightly," I mean just a whisker). Now for the timing and movement of the production itself. The right hand rotates toward the audience slightly, so that the coin is nearly, but not quite, parallel to the floor. The right third finger moves up and contacts the edge of the coin behind the hand. The thumb comes up in front of the first and second fingers. The right third finger actually pushes the coin forward between the first and second fingers, allowing the thumb to contact it and apply downward pressure, levering the coin to a vertical position, where it ends up held by the thumb and first and second fingertips (the first finger has to move out of the coin's way as it levers up and assume a position behind it). I hope this makes sense. With practice, it's possible for the coin to simply pop into view instantly, like it just materializes there. Good luck. |

What do you mean by 'rotating the hand'? Confused most about the production so where it looks like it just 'appears' I wish I understood what you were saying better. PS: I will of course take your advice on your method to improve it, as I want to make it look as good as possible. But doesn't it look good the way it is? |

Open Traveller, I sent you a PM. Thanks for your constructive feedback.
By the way, to anyone who is interested, in the opening video of Vol.2 coin magic by david stone he does the VERY same thing you describe, except without the web grip display. He produces 3 or 4 coins from downs at the fingertips using the same method. |
