I wouldn't call the Tarbell course the professional version of the Mark Wilson course. They have different purposes and different time lines. The Mark Wilson course was written specifically for someone who is about Brooks' age or older. The Tarbell course was written for someone who was roughly a high school senior or older. Certainly, the Tarbell course had pretensions of being a launching pad for a professional magician, but there was a lot that was either left out or simply had to be learned by experience.
The skills of the various editors notwithstanding, the writers of the Wilson course were, by and large, much better at what they were doing. That's why I would recommend that Brooks get both of these.

Tarbell's Course.
Spend the rest on a good working collection of silks, some decent cups and balls, half a dozen decks of cards, and some good coin effects. Good luck and happy prestidigitation! Geoffrey
