I've just bought the Manchurian Approach!!! What a great set of DVDs. Only on disk three but I'm amazed. This is as close to real magic as you can get! This is really my first experience into the world of hypnosis and it really has struck a chord within me. I really want to do this! However, I'm a little unsure what to do next. Should I try these things out on friends and family or on random strangers? The idea of trying it on strangers and it failing is holding me back. How can I get over this??? In the mean time is there any other literature you could recommend on this subject?
Thanks in advance |

Anthony Jacquin's book "Reality is Plastic" would be a great follow up to the DVDs.
The holiday season is a great opportunity to practice on many different people. As far as getting started you just need to do it. Start with the set pieces. When that works they will be more open to believing you are The Hypnotist. |

.... of course should they NOT work they will be less open to believing you are a hypnotist. And if they are family members or friends that may cause challenges that may seem insurmountable.
To answer Muzz's question: whilst you can try these out on friends and family it may be more profitable to initially have a go with strangers. Remember, hypnosis is not a self working trick, wherebye you read, perform and accept the applause. It's kinda' like when a person passes their driving test. Only then are they ready to learn how to drive. You are now about to learn how to hypnotise. The good news is you get to turn up for training as often as you wish, and it's all free, and you do get better, and better, annd better.

Hi Muzz,
thanks for your kind words about The Manchurian Approach. My advice is to get the basic recipe down and get practicing on your family this christmas. Just start without even saying the word hypnosis if it makes you more comfortable and do the set piece. If they are good then take things further. You can treat the inductions in the same way as a set piece. Getting over the fear of failure is of course your biggest hurdle. You have to be prepared to get a little egg on your face. However knowing when to bail means you cannot fail. If your set piece is entertaining then you can get out at any point. You never know granny might just turn out to be great. Having her doing an Eminem must be better than TV repeats. Also check out Nathan Thomas new download on being a Confident Hypnotist. There is some great advice an audio and bunch of patterns you can run on yourself that will help. Free but not for much longer as I understand. If you do not have the third supplement to RIP then let me know by email and I will email it as it has some ideas on the approach that will be of value to you. Stick with it and you will get this. All the best. Anthony

Thanks for the replies guys.
In particular thanks Anthony, not only for the advice but also for providing what I can only describe as some of the best material I have ever bought! As if seeing Chris hallucinating a Genie with evil pointy teeth is not worth the price of the DVDs alone, this set has also got my creative juices flowing. The implications of this stuff on adding a new dimension to my close up magic is just amazing! As for the advice I will certainly take it. Trying at least the set pieces out will help my confidence. I've not read Reality is Plastic yet but intend to buy it ASAP. Why oh why did I not look into Hypnosis sooner... Cheers, |

I found that just a wee bit unnatural and scary. Too good to be acting, if you know what I mean?

Yup I lost it. I have no idea why I gave Chris the suggestion I did but I just found it very comical.
It happened that badly once in therapy too. A client was battling his magnetic knees which we were using as an ideodynamic signal. He ended up with them stuck, feet pigeon toed. Fortunately he found it just as amusing, but I did have to do the rest of the session with my eyes shut for fear I would corpse laughing. Thanks for the feedback alpha alex and watch out for the promised Manchurian Supplement coming soon. Anthony

Has poor little Chris Harding taken out a lawsuit yet?
But seriously there is a genuine disbelief in hypnosis when you first approach it: Will it work?: Does it work?: Is it all just people playing along and it's really me who is the biggest idiot?: I really really really want it be real but it's just too good to be true... isn't it? I'm sure everyone that is human had these sort of thoughts when they first started looking into hypnosis. Then you take a look at something like "The Manchurian Approach" and there are a few places where it is disturbing. (Bare with me on this) Chris laughing is one of them there is a point where it goes beyond just laughing and another that escapes my memory whilst typing this: It's just not acting in any way shape or form, there IS something else going on above putting it on. I was fortunate enough to watch James Brown hypnotise someone in person, only 3 feet from me and it took 3 attempts to get the subject to forget the number "3" - First time he could remember - 2nd time you could see the subject was having difficulties getting out the number "3" (This was the seller as you could see the difficultly that was just not any kind of acting) 3rd time of "going under" and "awakened" and the poor chap couldn't count properly It's moments like that and on the DVD that are disturbing, not to the subject, but to the viewer. Disturbing may not be the right word but it's that sudden realisation that this was the proof you were looking for. You suddenly realise that this is not a fake or a scam this is real and it's like being slapped around the face with a big fish! (I wonder how that translates in American!) Another convincer that I stumbled across on James' new DVD set "Processional Opportunist" was that (During a forget a number routine) he 1. never mentions the number "3" and just refers to it as "The number between 2 and 4" but the interesting point was that he told the subject how his numbering system now went "Your numbers now go 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9,10" - The result was that the subject responded to an indirect and not intended suggestion and had trouble with the number 11 as well as the number "3". - By being told what his numbers were and only going up to 10, he forgot the number "3" AND had difficulty counting his 11th finger as well because he had only been told the numbers up to 10! That is the sort of thing that you can't make up or fake as the result isn't always as exactly intended by the hypnotist. It's the epiphany day when you come to realise that reality is plastic (You can groan at that but I just couldn't resist the pun! Sorry!) P.S. I'd like say a big thank you to Chris Harding for being such a good sport and helping us further our studies.
