The ultimate shadow box looks great, but performance on this video is just terrible. Watching this video is a big no for buying The ultimate shadow box… I would erase this video as soon as possible….

Everyone has a different style of performing. If that is not your taste in performance you are allowed to perform it how you like. Thanks for posting link.

I kind of like it. I was fooled by the video above. Great job Jack! Excellent prop as usual.

I'm sorry but I do not crook the point: What's the difference with a "low profile" Modern Cabinet?
The strength of a shadow box lies in that light can be shown through its walls at a certain moment. Is it possible with this illusion? |

Steven and Michael, The Mirror Images, yes you are right, everyone has a different style of performing, but in this video there was no style. All four people didn’t know what to do on the stage; it looks like they read the instructions, put the shadow box on the stage and let’s show it to the audience. If you practice enough, than you know what to do, how to move, timing, etc… Those guys didn’t know anything, how to move, how to show the box, how to present it, how to open it, how to get off the stage. Assistant with the light didn’t do anything and magician also didn’t now how to present his “work”.
Now the reason for posting my previous post was, because I really wanted to buy shadow box, ask Jack Murray. I never buy something without seeing the video first. This whole post was talking about “new” illusion, so people/magicians would buy it. After two and a half years I finally saw the video, which was not the best way to convince me to buy the illusion. Does that mean I need three assistants to present this illusion? Illusion looks great, better than other versions, but this video; to me as a magician raise 10x more questions about executing the shadow box. For example: Why two guys? Do you have to hide something; do you need an assistance to open the box? Just look at the time when box open and magician appear. There are three guys near the box. One is trying to break the wheel; the second one didn’t know what to do… Magician didn’t know how to present himself… That is not how you do illusions. The assistant with the light just “light” the box. Sorcerer was correct when he wrote: The strength of a shadow box lies in that light can be shown through its walls at a certain moment. Is it possible with this illusion or not? Marketing is difficult, but in these times very important. I am trying to see the video of The Ultimate Shadow Box for two and a half years and now when I see it, it is a bad one. This is not the way to get costumers and yes I know that Jack Murray didn’t put it on and please don’t take it personal. For me it was a friendly advice, for you it maybe looks like an "attack" or something similar; again just friendly advice. |

Afternight,
I agree with you completly. You not need an army of people to perform the illusion. It was lackluster but again I have seen a lot of lackluster stuff lately. Its the only video to show what it looks like on stage. Does it show its full potential. No. Can I help that No. We try our best to get the info out there. And as we get new and update video we always share the better ones. This is the only one we have. Did it do what I want it to do. No unfortunallly neather Jack nor I consulted. You are right it looks like set up and just do it. Not much thought went into it. But again my apolgizes. Please feel free to PM for any questions that I can answer for you. I can not be as detailed here as I can in a PM. The best thing I can say is the Prop is solid. And with the right performer it can also be solid. Maybe you will be that performer

I will also note that there are many aspects of the illusion missing in the demo reel shown. That is also disappointing. But not sure if that is because this is just peices of the illusion or what not.

I very unpleasantly surprised!!!! When you advertise it (as if, like) a new trick, the description was such a beautiful and mysterious, even wanted to buy it As soon as the video looked all became clear. Not see any difference between this "new super stunt" and the classical "fire cage". The secret is the same and it is obvious. May be you so stupid magicians, and can only say , like parrots how everything is fine (so as not to offend the master or the performer). You need to have your objective opinion and be a little smarter and more honest!First of all it's just kind of FIRE CAGE. Second - trick is quite not interesting, and does not coincide with a very interesting description of this trick before. A third -performance is ... parody on D.C.,but very bad. This is only my opinion, and please do not be offended at me.Trick and performance must be interesting for the magician and audience and have WOW effect!

I believe this illusion could work in the right hands but need some work both in performance as in design.
A first big improvement is to remove the vertical black line on the outside of the box, this gives it away!!! |

The use of this effect for a shadow box is an interesting thought and, with a few design adjustments and a carefully crafted performance, it has possibilities. However, I think that the issues with lighting will prevent most performers from presenting this in the round.
I further suggest that it would be impossible to present this effect fully surrounded if the light was offered to the box prior to the closing of the front screen - as shown in the posted video. |

Russ Stevens performed a Shadow Box that could be done surrounded many many years ago which was very good!
It's available for a builder in the UK as 'Russ Stevens Solid Shadows Illusion'. Owen redwine also has a version called 'Quantum Leap' that can be performed surrounded I have also seen performers with a B*s* model (like a Crystal box but with paper/lycra panels instead of glass) and if you cover the back of the box of a Hologram it can be used as well in the round. I don't think that the Shadow box effect looks good surrounded! What most seem to forget is, that for a shadow box to be effective, people need to see it from the front. People watching on the sides and back can't see what the effect is. |

The moves required a lot of effort just to ensure that there was something to see on all four sides, but everyone could definitely see something. It is certainly easier to concentrate on putting on a good show in one direction rather than a four-way compromise. |

The beauty of Edmund Spreer's Shadow Box is lost with this design. It's "seeing" the light bulb through the sides and the back that creates the mystery of the Shadow Box. My old friend Doug Henning dusted off the Shadow Box which had not been done in years. He recognized a beautiful concept and his presentation was breathtaking. In comparison, this method is very poor. At least that's my opinion.
