Because people are traveling less, I predict within the next five years House Parties will make a come-back.

I seem to work more of them than ever. 2/3 of my Christmas shows this year were home parties, and I know many people either hosting or attending home parties tonight. Are we talking about the same thing?

I had 6 House parties in the month of December. The most I've had in the past 5 years. In fact, I've had the best all-around December, period!

Seems that, depending on what area of the country you're in has an effect on the number of House parties you book.
I will amend my prediction to: Because people are occasionally traveling less as reported on the television stations I watch, I predict that for southern california. within the next five to twenty years, House Parties will make a come-back (or not) in the areas where people can afford them as long as the trend is for others in the region to do the same. Hardly anyone booked school shows this year either yet I sold an item to a gent in W.Virginia and he was booking several a month. That's why my new years resolution is to become an rich mogul, then I can hire everyone else to perform on my own island.

Jay,
Good thing you don't have to fly that amendment past a bunch of lawyers! I'm sure there are regional shifts, as much as there are national or international trends. Sometimes a concept may simply be played out in an area, and need a little hiatus for the public to once again think it's a "new" idea. There are always more sheep than there are shepherds.

Jay,
Out here in Dallas...I think the House Parties have stayed pretty consistant for those who are in that market. I look at this market and break it down into two groups. GROUP 1: The Magi out here who undercut all the real workers by billing a show for $75.00 - $150.00 have been staying really busy. Hmmm....wonder why? The sad thing is that I know of a few who will do a gig for $150.00 and that includes an hours magic show, balloon twisting, games and face painting. YIKES! No wonder they stay busy. I'm shocked they can stay in business...but whatever... GROUP 2: The performers who are billing what I would consider the "standard" for the market ($150 - $300) are still seeing green quite frequently...tho' not as frequently as GROUP 1. With that said, I think that the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and Texas in general may be the exception as the economy out here is in a much nicer toilet than it is in other parts of the USA...plus the cost of living out here is pretty much next to nothing so folks seem to be able to splurge a little more on entertainment for private events. Personally...I may do 2-3 Private Home shows per month...but then I'm higher priced than both GROUP 1 and GROUP 2. Back when I considered myself in GROUP 2, I was probably doing between 5 - 10 Private Home Shows per month. Either way...my point here is that in general, I agree with your assement, although, I think it will come back SOONER rather than LATER for most areas. Christopher

Once people decide they want the bigger package. I usually get 1 to 10 ratio of people doing the "Special" Most of my programs are $300 - $500 for family home parties.

Mark,
NO! You cannot be in Group 3 as you cannot possibly have ANY EXTRA TIME in your schedule to work a private gig! lol Christopher
