Hey guys,

Came across a video on developing marketing calendar, and they mentioned this mind mapping software. I haven't signed up yet, but you can create 3 mind maps absolutely free.

https://www.mindmeister.com

You can view the marketing calendar video @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoVHpVJc8nQ

Enjoy!

I use mind mapping a lot on paper.

I't a very useful tool esp. for scattered thinkers like myself.

Not quite sure why I would use it on the computer(I think better with pencil in hand) but thanks for the link trickychaz. I'm sure some prefer the computer screen.

I was wondering along the same lines as Mary. I use mind mapping to work out new comedy bits and to brainstorm new routine ideas. I've always used pencil and paper to great effect and teach the technique when I lecture.

Looking at Mindmeister, it seems that the sole real advantage is being able to run real-time long-distance brainstorm sessions in groups over the Internet. That is an advantage if you work with focused power groups, as I do. Aside from that I don't see any advantage.

I am always ready to try and learn new methods, though! Anyone actually use a mind mapping software? I would love to hear what advantages mind mapping software would have over paper mapping. Thanks, Chaz!

Mary,

Eric Paul said there is a connection between writing with the hand and the mind! Once you get it all mapped out on paper you could do the computer version and then print it out for neatness!

I just mapped out my 2010 marketing plan on paper, and will organize it on the computer just for neatness.

Great tip. I think there are other mind mapping programs out there - even for the mac.

Mind mapping is a great way to get a birds-eye view of your 'grand plan' and that sounds like an interesting way of creating one.

Like Mary, I prefer paper, even though I am a huge advocate of tech. In fact, I have two Moleskine journals. One for 'strategic' big picture planning and one for more detailed, specific 'tactical' methods and plans.

In the end, both are perfectly legit and the only right answer is the one that works and is most effective for you.

Thanks so much for sharing!

If you'd like an open source, free option for mind mapping check out Freemind. It does require you have Java installed on your system (pretty common).

BTW, sourceforge is a treasure trove of goodies...
