Looks impressive. However, the movement is a bit choppy and looks too mechanical. Just my opinion.

There will be a lot of naysayers and nitpickers after the long delay, probably, but if you can forget all the hype and hope, this looks pretty darn good. (I'm still going to wait for reviews from trusted reviewers, however, before ordering.)

I didn't think it looked all that great, especially after the absurdly long wait. The quality of the video itself looked like it was shot in 10 minutes.

C'mon. It's pretty impressive both conceptually and in the execution.
And it fits in nicely with his concept of astonishment. Jim |

I think this looks wicked too. The fact that he can be steered to different directions is also cool. When he turned slightly on the second section of the clip, really added a shock surprise. The moving, I didn't think it looked to mechanical. I think it’s fair to say he’s not necessarily “stepping” and you can’t necessarily distinguish each individual “Step” but still, it looks so incredibly magical. Placing it on the bag or anything else shouldn't be a problem. its like a little platform. If anything, it will add to the performance. IT perfectly justifies why you have the clay in the first place. Perhaps it was a present from someone? Everything about it is just cool. I’ll be saving up for the next couple of months to make sure I can get this. It’s just cool!

A great performer may take this concept to a miracle level.
If you frame this "little man" with a strong presentation and a clever build-up drama sequence, then you have a fine magic creation. Animation effects are always a great thing for laymen, I know. I do several (other) animation effects and they are great things in my magic performance. And - EVERYTHING can be examined at the end - makes it unbelievable. Great work and thinking. |

I think the trick itself looks ok, not miraculous. In my previous post I was more or less referring to the quality of the actual video. After waiting this long, I expected to see a more refined video.

This is pretty miraculous if you think about it. The audience helps make Little Man. Everything is examinable. The performer can walk away before the animation begins. And, Little Man can be given away at the end of the performance. In the right situation, this could be an absolute miracle in the eyes of the audience.

My basic take on this is that you are getting a device that will move objects, in this case the idea is that it moves a little clay man. The downsides are that the option that may first occur to a spectator is probably going to be the right one...the movement is a bit of a giveaway. The plus is that the mechanism for this effect looks pretty well hidden and would be hard for a spectator to prove without them going on a destructive rampage. It does feel fairly cluttered , what with bag, box, torn up business card and all but the plus side of these ingredients is the portability of the effect. I haven't seen anything like this so, whilst the point has been made that we aren't getting anything that has been tested in the real world, its hard to quibble with the price just because of the specific apparatus that is being provided and the work that has obviously gone into its development. Finally what everyone was waiting for!! A demo! And now comes the disappointment from what everyone had in mind of little man walking. I think it looked ok but not $300.00 worth.

Thanks for the demo! Love the humor.
Sure, he's shuffling, but he's doing so with alternating feet, rather than merely sliding forward, so it at least mimics how a real person shuffles. The part where he turns and selects an item creates a powerful illusion that the little guy has an independent will. If we give him away as a souvenir, as suggested, how and at what cost do we replace the clay?

Hi MaxfieldsMagic
The clay/dough stuff is very inexpensive. Don't have an exact price for you, but to give away little man should easily be under a quarter a pop. Thanks for asking! Janet Harris (AG) |

Thanks PHSIS, for real workers it's likely that the figure would be given away on occasion. Any chance for making extra containers for the dough available too?

This would freak people out with the right bizarre scripting. Add a pendulum, candle w/incense and a book of shadows and you have a heart throbbing bizarre routine. Instead of just calling it clay, refer to it as the earth taken from a burial ground of a voodoo priest. Add some color to the clay and even some dirt.
Also before you make the little voodoo guy draw a simple drawing of a man and show it around. Tell everyone that you will make a prediction as you turn the drawing toward you and draw something on it. Place the drawing face down and now pull out your voodoo box and begin your story. Light the candle and then make the clay man. Use your pendulum over the clay man as you recite a small poem (or something) and then pick him up and blow life into him right before you stand him up. After the walking of the little guy, ask a spectator to hold the voodoo clay man. Introduce a hat pin (Voodoo Needle) and instruct the helper to stick the little guy anywhere they like. Once this is done, turn over the drawing and everyone sees that you have marked the very location on the drawing of where the spectator stuck the voodoo pin in the clay man. You have marked the drawing before even making the little guy. There are other ways to place life into the little man that would look cool and I will leave that up to you to figure out. I hear people here complain about it walks funny and that they are not pleased. Let me tell you something about this. With the right story and props, a small moment from a prop will make people JUMP out of their seats. You guys are thinking just like magicians and many here don’t see the true power something like this would have on people. Many here only see the demo which is of making a little clay man and that he walks. It is ALL many here are seeing because they are not used to thinking beyond the printed instructions of a magic trick. This is excellent because they are the ones that just do magic tricks while the others (very few) perform magic and touch the emotions of their spectators. This is a difference that greatly separates the two philosophies of performance when it comes to entertainment. Best Ray |
