I'ld like to be one ahead, and pre-order it before the effect exists.

Dave, I meant no offense or any attack, I thought your thread is a parody of the preorder ads for Paul Harris Presents Little Man, the guy made of play dough. Hence my post, Dave Presents himself as just a Little Man trying to make some dough. Get it? I guess it's not funny if it requires an explanation.

I'll also only order if the demo is filmed late at night with drunk people or people with very few teeth and a bottle wrapped in brown paper.
There was a demo recently for The Shark which showed the effects impact on normal sober folk, during the day, and SOME OF THEM WERE DRINKING COFFEE! Whats that all about ? |

Oh yes,
the more Jerry Springer Show rejects in the video over reacting the better.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

Jeez - I didn't know it was a pre-order - the dealer's ad said he had it in stock. Then he charged my credit card and sent me a little slip of paper saying "B/O". That was six months ago...
Now appearing nightly in my basement.

I only pre-order an order before it can be ordered but not after the pre-order becomes available for order. That way as longer as all is in order I can order that pre-order but will not recieve the order unless the order was originally only available as a pre-ordered order before the order was released.....

This is all well and good, I suppose, but when the hell will the sellers of this stuff come up with the idea of "pre-deliver"? I'm waiting...
Also known, when doing rope magic, as "Cordini"

If this thread would be the cause that the useless intro's of the "cool" demo's are significantly shortenend, then the initiator of this thread deserves the Nobelprize, the Pullitzerprize and a medal of the Unitied Nations.

I would like to hear from those that make the long, dawn out, fanfare in their demos and hear their side of why they do it and will they continue to do it.
It looks like no one has said they would rather see the slicky boy tactic than a basic, matter of fact, here it is presentation. If there is, than I would like to hear why.
I am getting so tired of slitting the throats of people who say that I am a violent psychopath.

Don’t be a victim of FAKE Pre Ordering. As a public service, below is a list of of REAL Pre Order characteristics.
1. The pre order must state that there is a distinct "possibility" of a price increase once the pre order begins to actually ship, if indeed it does actually ship. 2. The pre order must have at least two completely unsuspected delays (i.e. technical difficulties), thus suspending the item in an even longer state of pre orderness. Such as: A) There was an unforeseen problem with the printer, resulting in a complete trashing of the printed instructions and or DVD case. B) There was an unforeseen problem with the taping of the video instructions, resulting in a complete re taping and editing of the video instructions. C) There was an unforeseen problem with the DVD case little round thingy that holds the DVD in place, which caused some (not all) of the DVDs to become dislodged and “potentially” scratched, though still playable on most standard DVD players and or computers built after 2008. D) There was an unforeseen problem with the entire working of the effect, resulting in a compete re design of the entire effect. 3) The pre order must include some sort of jazzy ad copy that is intended to convince you the magician that you will be the first magician at your local magic club to perform this incredible wonder for your fellow magicians thus fooling them all badly. This is a cleaver tactic, since this is probably the only place and time you will ever perform the effect. 4) The pre order, after actual shipping MUST suddenly slip into complete and total oblivion, never to threaded upon again. Please keep these characteristics in mind when placing your next pre order to ensure that it is indeed not available, to avoid feelings of disappointment.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

Well I don't think any producers are going to admit that their intros are drawn out but if you would like an explanation for why magic demos are the way they are I may be able to help. I think we do a good job at making a hip demo and still showing the effect but the one product demo we got some flack for having a long intro was this product http://www.papercranemagic.com/technique.htm that demo has about a 35 second intro the intro serves a purpose. It builds some anticipation it introduces you to the performer, it shows reactions and goes right into the effect. The reason companies don't do the old school video demos is because times are changing and magic doesn't have the dorky tag that it had in the past and the editors and videographers want to put out something that represents there artistic talent.

Easy solution:
Don't pre-order. Wait for reviews. That is all. |
