I mean, other than on the inside of the plane.
I fly frequently, and it is in my travel profile that I prefer to sit in the rear of the plane, window seat. Plus, if possible, the right side of the plane. This sometimes creates a situation where I sit in the back by myself if the plane is not full. This happened to me recently and I spent part of the flight talking with the flight attendant, since she seemed surprised that I was seated in the back of a plane that was only 1/4 full. She mentioned that people hate the back of the plane and will almost always complain if seated there. She also said that it is her observation that men tend to prefer to sit in the aisle rather than window. So, what is your preference? Front, rear, or don't care? Window, aisle, or don't care? Left side, right side, or don't care?

Front - only because I'll get to disembark sooner.
Window - I like watching the scenery. Side - depends on where I'm flying. For example, flying from Los Angeles to Seattle, I'd rather be on the right side to be able to see Yosemite; flying from Seattle to Los Angeles: left side, same reason. |

Aisle, because if I need to go to the bathroom, I don't have to ask anyone to move.
Otherwise, it doesn't matter. I don't stand up until those in the immediate rows in front of me have started moving. Pet peeve - the panic to get off a plane as soon as rubber hits tarmac.

As far back as possible and aisle since I got fat, prior to that window, and I'll tell you specifically why I prefer the back.
1. In plane crashes where there have been survivors most have been in the back where the plane is structurally more sound. 2. The back use to be the smoking area and in the days of smokers that was generally where you found nicer and more fun people while the )$R@#$E were up front 'away from those smokers'. 3. If the plane crashes into a mountain I get to live a fraction of a second longer than those &(#&@*$'s in the front of the plane (I really think this way, that extra fraction gives me satisfaction). 4. I hate to fly and I get to watch people to make sure that if anyone jumps up with a gun I can not be in the way and perhaps get 'em from behind. 5. I don't want to be among the pack of twits who think the are so self important that they need to stand up early to get their carry on and exit the plane 78 seconds before the last person exits the same plane and I watch them and smile thinking about how now I wish we had hit that freakin' mountain so they could have had their bodies ripped apart and heads crushed a fraction of a second before me....what a wonderful fraction that would have been! I then usually end up passing by the first off people as they stand there puzzled about what their next move is or as they are stacked up at security since they are sheep who go with the other twits to the same gate out. Note: I would have answered above regardless and realize that S2000 is the exception to the rule. |

Aisle.
And about 2/3rds of the way back, as rows 25 and higher tend to board first on the airline I normally fly. So I normally shoot for an aisle seat in rows 25 to 27.

Window and even tho I don't really care that much I often sit on right side. I tend to go towards the back of the aircraft.
Splatlind I was always told that the correct way to disembark from a plane was to let the rows in back of you go first. I don't think many follow that rule to much now. I know in the 90's it was still done that way. |

Since I have not flown in a decade as I have become more paranoid about it do any airlines still have reserved seating or all doing the numerical order thing these days?

Close to emergency exit, not out of fear but more leg space.
I prefer to sit in the part of the plane that boards last because then I get ot have one last cigarette depending on where we are flying from. |

Last flight I had some kid was hanging off the emergency exit. I wanted to kill that kid, the stew tossed them out of the seat and put someone else there.

By the window, right over the wing. I like to watch the gremlins work away at the engine at 30,000 feet.

I hate the wing, it moves! Worse flight I went on had props, I stared at them the entire flight waiting for 'em to stop.

I DON'T fly! I have no valid reason but it just flat scares the livin sh*t outta me so I just don't do it anymore! My wife is joining her sisters and some of their husbands in Italy this summer for 2 weeks and I'm not going mainly because of the flight!
If I can't drive there, I don't go! I know the statistics but I ain't changing, I just hate flyin, PERIOD! |

When at someone else's expense for a long flight, first class aisle seat. Usually only a few rows, on first, off first, always meet geniunely interesting accomplished people, seats recline and become bed like.

Safely (and with my dignity and comfort intact) in a chair on the ground. You can fly.

I always ask for the emergency exit seat, for the extra leg space. Its always funny when they ask if I'll be willing to open the emergency door if the plane decides to go scuba diving. Believe me, I'd be more than willing to open the door and get the &&& out of the plane
