Yo,
I'm not a manipulator at all, but I do want to learn how to do a veritable card spring. I don't know how is the problem. As you all probably know, whenever I do it I either have the go from about 4 inches away to make the deck look somewhat orderly and I'm not even using the version where the cards bow upwards.

:(

Well anyways where/how do I learn this effect? Is it really as simple as practice and repetition? There has to be some technique.

And yes I did search ("card spring" at least)

The best card spring info around in my opinion is in THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PLAYING CARD FLOURISHES by Jerry Cestkowski. A whole chapter on it in fact, but I agree that the price of the book may not be worth it for this one move, but he does teach you the best method.

Roberto Giobbi teaches the spring in Volume 2 of CARD COLLEGE (I think it is volume 2).

It is a knack indeed, but let me ask you, are you springing the cards from the ends or the corners? Most have found that by springing the cards from the diagonal corners (meaning the bow and pressure is between your little finger on the top right corner of the deck and your thumb on the bottom left corner of the deck). This diagonal bow may seem awkward at first, but in the long run you will get a better, longer, and more controlled spring with this method. Oh, and practice over a bed.

I second Jerry Cestkowski's Encyclopedia (http://www.flourishman.com).

The Virts also have a free video tutorial on the Card spring.
