Fender is updating their Passport line. The new "Passport Pro Series" is on the horizon. I hear Fender will offer it in 150, 300, & 500 watt models. I have been very satisfied with my Passport PD-250, and I am excited to hear more about this new Passport line. My Passport 250 has been great for my magical needs, but I am always interested in upgrades, especially for my musical needs. I hope these will be a little lighter in weight!

I will have to look into this.
although I love my 150 and adore the mobile cube even more. I wouldn't mind updating my passport to have phantom power.

The Fender Passport Pro Series is now available. I like the features I see! The weight is down a little, so I am tempted to upgrade. I need the 500 watt model, not for the power but for the extra channels that it has. I have patiently waited for Fender make a 250-300 watt model with the same specs as the 500, but it doesn't look like they're going to. The price is several hundred bucks lower than the previous 500 watt Passport, so that is good.
As a musician, the Pro Series is better suited for me than the older Passport models. A few things I like are: The 2 types of reverb (Fender claims it is "Studio-quality"). Each channel has 2 tone controls now, which is a big plus for me. I always hated the single tone control on channels 1-4 of my old PD-250. It also has phantom power, and a USB channel, which is nice. Fender has reduced the weight a little, but I would prefer it be even lighter. A 250 watter would weigh less and probably be about perfect for me but it only has 6 channels, and as I mentioned earlier, I need the 8. Still, this new Passport Pro 500 Series wweighs about 6-8 pounds less than my older PD-250. Power amps are heavy, so reducing the weight while doubling the power is a plus. I want to 'test-drive' one of these pretty soon if I can only get some time. If anyone has tried one, I would appreciate your thoughts. Regan

I sold a Passport Executive to a member of the Café. He received it today. His first impression was "Wow I'm really impressed".
He will be using it in School Shows on Friday. I'll report back when I hear from him. I had my distributor drop ship it to him so I didn't get a chance to play with it, but I'm going to order two more next week. Todd, if there is a considerable price difference between the 150 and the Pro, get the 150 it will serve you well. If there is not much difference in price get the Pro. (My 2 cents) |

Heard back about the Passport Executive today. He used it in a large Caféteria with over 300 students in attendence. He just set it on the front of the stage and said it did a great job.

Unfortunately, they took out the "VIP" function (Vocal Input Priority). That was a cool function which would automatically turn down the music when you started speaking and then turn it back up when you are done. Don't know if I would have used that function anyways, but it sure would have been nice to have that option. Played with the VIP function on an older model, and it was great.

I hate the VIP function on my PD-250. I never use it, and always hoped Fender would use the space for something more useful for me. I realize that some may like the VIP function but I am really glad it is not on the newer models.

I too disliked the VIP function. Last year this got turned on by mistake, and I couldn't figure out why my mic kept cutting out on me. I ended up turning off the mic and turning up my voice for that show. Then I taped that sucker into the off position.
I noticed that the PD-150 is now discontinued. Is the 150 Pro supposed to take its place?

Hi;
Do any of use the integrated wireless option from Fender for the Passport 150, a discrete 3'rd party wireless, or do you use a hard wire mic? http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0692201000 I was pricing the Fender UHF wireless for the Passport and it's a pricey option. regards, Devlin. |

That said, the wireless hand-held microphone it came with was exceptionally insensitive. You had to hold it very close to your mouth to get remotely good pickup, and you had to turn up the volume significantly higher than what was needed for the hard-wired mic. |

Personally I feel there are better wireless systems then the Fender. Having it integrated into the unit would have it's advantages, but I prefer a different wireless.
