Actually Gary Animal's cups because he designed them!
Check out http://www.magicpitch.com/products.html for details of new range of cups! They look as slick as James Riser's - plus there's special prices on the run outs of the existing range. |

Greetings and Salutations,
The current deals on the cups make them very attractive, but I put tape to cups, and unless I'm completely off the mark, the Gazzo cup dimensions seem to be identical to my set of Pete Biro Gali-Gali cups. I like my Biro's; are the Gazzo cups heavy enough to outweigh the Biro's to make the investment worthwhile? Anybody have any first-hand experience to make a meaningful comparison? Thanks for your input. Joe in KC Live a great adventure, make magic happen? |

The Gazzo cups are easily three times heavier and sturdier than the Galli Galli.

Greetings and Salutations Whit,
Thanks! That's what I was looking for ... I'm putting my order in now. Don't get me wrong, Pete's cups are fabulous, I'm just looking for something heavier, and the Gazzo's sound like they'll fit the bill. Now I'm curious, is this how cup-and-ball collections get started? Thanks again! Joe in KC Live a great adventure, make magic happen! |

Joe,
I assume you were talking about, and ordering, the largest of the Gazzo cups? I didn't realize Gazzo's cups were the same size as our Gali Galis. I thought Gazzo's had a more tappered top to make the final load look larger by contrast when placed upon it. Jim

James,
I think you may be referring to the old style Gazzo cups. The older ones have the taper you are talking about. The newer ones have a flatter, yet still curved, top. Check out the new ones versus the old ones at the Magicpitch.com website. The older style Gazzo cups are at the bottom of the page.

I have the old Gazzo Street Cups and the new cups available on magicpitch.com. The old ones are excellent. The new ones are even better! (And a terrific value—especially at the introductory price!) Gary was great to deal with: courteous, helpful, and fast. I ordered mine on a Tuesday and had them in hand from England the following Monday. I couldn't be more pleased.

If your are rough on your props, like Whit, you need the Gazzo Cups for sure. But if you are Vernon like, with a nice touch of class... the Galli Galli cups are best
How collections get started??? Well, if you are nuts like I am, you get onto one thing and buy everything that comes along. Sure I have nearly 75 different sets of cups... and sure, new ones come along and I buy (some) them... but not all... I have to LIKE something about them. Lately, it is the PRICE.

Pete: Are you saying I don't have no class? What a mean man you can be sometimes. I like the Galli-Galli cups in spite of the constant online hype from Biro's corner , but Vernon probably would have gone for the Sherwood cups...
The Gazzo cups are by far the sturdiest cups available in the largest street/giberciere design, and the best for people like me who are sometimes rough on their props. |

I have seen Pete's cup collection and it's beautiful. And huge. Pete, when are we gonna do a cup jam at the castle?

To me that is just way too much money for a set of cups that aren't even gimmicked. I guess money is a subjective thing, to each his own.

Gimmicked cups? Who would want to slow down the effect worrying about a gimmick.
Pure sleight-of-hand wins every time! And... if you don't rely on gimmicks, you can do the cups and balls with almost any cups, borrowed, bowls, hats, ashtrays, you name it...

I didn't mean to insinuate that gimmicked cups were somehow better. I was trying to say I could see spending a little more on any object if a gimmick was somehow built into it. Then it would make it really different from any other cup you can buy.

Quality makes it different from any other cup you can buy.

Right Whit... folks, you just don't realize how much it costs to actually make a quality set of cups. Sure you can by those slave labor aluminum cups from a third world country... but how long will they last? Not long if you really use them.
And... and this is a big AND... see how they handle. The cheaper lightweight cups are pretty useless when you really get into "doing" the cups and balls in the real world. The real makers, Jim Riser, Gary Animal, Danny Dew, Sisti, Johnson, Brent Sherwood (the highest high-enders), Auke, Buma Jr., and a few others (myself included) spent THOUSANDS just to make the FIRST cup of a run... So... it really boils down to the oldest of old sayings, "You get what you pay for." (Note: Silly collectors, like myself, will pay more than something is really worth... just to HAVE IT...

Gimmicked cups would only be for lifetime amateurs.

The old style Gazzo Cups from Gary are very heavy and very large. The oversized double bead on the walls makes them easy to grab when in use. I like them. I'll be reviewing the new style on my cups web page soon.
To anyone who thinks quality cups are too expensive: I would suggest that you try spinning a set yourself and buffing them to a mirror finish. The metal used is as thick as a worn U.S. nickel and is not easy to spin. Try bending the coin. I have spoken with many metal spinners from coast to coast. Many have told me that they can not spin such cups (too difficult or they do not know how). Still others have indicated that doing so would not be profitable. I know of one cup supplier whose spinner has a 50% rejection rate Finding a spinner who can and will make heavy cups is not an easy quest. One cup supplier's spinner quit spinning his excellent cups because he could earn more making car parts! I can tell you from experience that the quality cups are actually underpriced. Until you have actually handled quality cups, you have no idea of the difference between them and the cheap cups. Good cups allow moves not possible with the cheap versions. Jim |

Jim,
Excellent point. As for the cost of cups - you're only as good as your props. If you buy cheap stuff, you figure out the rest. BTW Jim - what cups do you currently have available? Never too soon to start Christmas shopping! Robert Bloor

The cupboard is currently bare. Perhaps I can begin "restocking" the first week of September. Thanks for asking. Actually, I may need to cut back on cup production this fall as I produce my new gravity holdout. The holdout with its accessories will be a time cosuming production item also. Jim |
