Hi,

This looks like a well run and functional board so I thought I’d spend some time online with you guys.

I write software and build web systems for a living, but have a passion for collecting usable magic and when I get the time actually performing it.

I spend most of my spare time trying to buy some of the better magic out there. I keep my collection online

http://martinsmagic.com

and try to add to it regularly.

I’m always looking for new sources of good quality magic that isn’t just pretty, but can acutally be used. I don’t perform to magicians but having been interested in magic for almost 30 years I have formed some opinions on our art and industry.

I’m pleased to have found this board!

Hi Andy, with so many props on hand, what is the favorite close-up items in your collection? Smile

Well - with so many props it's hard to choose just one favorite Smile

I’ll break it down into a few topics.

I will not include any card effects, and am restricting myself to what I have classified as close-up on my site which is about 167 items:

http://www.martinsmagic.com/cgi-bin/dche......=gallery

1) For sheer beauty and elegance and cleverness of method:

any of the Alan Warner items, he just makes very wonderful micro magic, that always has a clever method, and is different and entertaining:

2) For sheer entertinment:

I think I’d go for either of the Ron Bauer effects: Horn Swoggled Again

http://www.martinsmagic.com/cgi-bin/dche......key=1009

or Xerox Money

http://www.martinsmagic.com/cgi-bin/dche......key=1006

3) For nice feeling in the hands (and entertainment) The Mogars Knives

http://www.martinsmagic.com/cgi-bin/dche......%7Cnives

4) For "apparent" incredible sleight of hand dexterity: Dean Dill’s Production Pad:

5) Finally, for sheer cleverness and convincingness of method (even though the props are cheap): Tenyo’s Crystal Cleaver!

Well that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it!

That isn't a website Andy it is a virtual 'encyclopedia'!!

I couldn't agree more with your comments on Alan Warner's pure craftmanship!

I notice that you don't list his 'Mummy' effect which IMO is one of his best! Smile

Wallace - I don’t have his mummy one...

it's discontinued and I haven’t yet seen it up for sale used. I will be getting the following items this month:

4. Voo-Doo No. 84-4

6. Runic No. 37-6

7. Red Chinese Puzzle No. 40-7

8. Pentra No. 64-8

16. Mini-Mental No. 74-16

17. The Pharaoh’s Curse No. 55-17

26. Horus-Scope No. 62-26

36. Kryptic Keys No. 62-36

37. The Wonderland Door No. 47-37

39. Scarab-A-Scarab No. 62-39

Which will add to my collection very nicely Smile Gee, I must get a life some day, but in the meantime I’ll keep building my collection. The Warner stuff is just so wonderful to pick up and play with.
