For me the hop is the best
no side steal , no angle jog, no pass, no cull no double under cut, no bluff anthing and no shuffling. \ it is bold and in your face no angles to worry "unfaithfull force" but it is the hop..... thanks to every one that was interested and pmed me I hope the Hop becomes part of your every day arsenal . Thank you Harry Lorayne and Mike skinner vinny |

Interesting - nobody responded re: A Card Hop in APOCALYPSE. So, thought I would, or should. No, that item is NOT what's being discussed here. But - it's an easy to do, overlooked, piece of business. Look it up. HL.

It is amazing how deceptive is Jack Carpenter performance of this move!
I am sure I have seen this move in one of Harry Lorayne' videos but I am not sure which one. Can anybody help? |

Got me. I guess I simply referred to it as The Hop. The Card Hop seems redundant. HL.

But as you said, they are definitely two different items. I am not familiar with he hop which is the topic of this thread, however I am familiar with your move from apocolypse entitled " the card hop" which too is invisible but quite different I believe. Am I correct?

Yes, basically two different things. I simply refer to the basic idea as "The Hop." Because, although the concepts are different, the basic "movement" of a card is the same. HL. (PS: As I believe I've already posted, I use the concept only for the Lorayne Invisible Pass Routine.)
Posted: Jan 22, 2010 11:01am -------------------------------- Oh, wait. I don't want to confuse the issue. The one in Apocalypse (The Card Hop) is different. I simply gave it that name way back then because it's basically the secret movement of one card. That is not the move under discussion here - for either of the two concepts, but a "pretty thing," nevertheless. HL.

I didn't know if anyone's interested, but here's an old video of a routine using the hop. While it's titled "Harry Lorayne's Invisible Pass," it really comes at the effect from the opposite direction. You'll see what I mean:

I have already told Vinny privately, but for those who don't know about this move...it is AMAZING!! Vinny made my eyes cross even after I knew what was happening. Vinny is very talented and incredibly generous!

Just to keep the record straight - Lance's effect on the video is excellent, but - it's not the Lorayne Invisible Pass Routine. The concept, yes I guess, but not my routine. If you care, you can check my routine where I originally taught it - in Quantum Leaps (which I'm re-writing, updating, etc., in The Classic Collection, Volume 3), I performed/taught it on a video about twenty or so years ago - now on a DVD called Magical Classics, also demo'd and taught on volume 4 of my "Best Ever" 4-volume DVD set. It's also taught in the Genii magazine issue, the one with me on the cover (back about 2001 or so). So, you have different areas for checking it out, and thanks for the opportunity to plug some of my stuff! Best - HARRY L.

Ok... So I finally looked this thing up... and while I found that this wasn't really a "pass" or "shift" in the true sense of preserving the deck order, I can see why this would be PERFECT for an "Invisible Pass Routine" (as HL asserts he really only uses the move for). I loved the several variations that I have seen online, including Vinny's, but I would stress that this move doesn't replace a classic pass by any stretch of the imagination. It is a perfect utility move under the misdirection of being an "invisible pass". I can also see from the tweaks that have been made to it that it could be a good force as well... but I wouldn't go so far to say that it is 'angle proof' or even that it is a relatively 'easy' learn.
If some people looked to this thread for an easy (somewhat fool-proof) 'replacement' for the pass, then I would recommend what I have seen referred to as a "tap false cut". It is the one that starts with a true swivel cut and it must been done at a table or in a spectators hands. It's bold, it's easy, it will stump any spectator (but a card magician will see it a mile away . I know that Jeff Wessmiller covered it briefly on one of his 'Weapons...' DVDs. It might also be in 'Royal Road..." (I don't recall for sure). Anyway... thanks Vinny for pointing this out, I had not seen this before, although I had seen various gambling table falses referred to as "hops" before. I can think of a number of good uses for this, but as HL conceived of this it does seem best suited for an Inv. Pass Routine. |
