Hi All,
I'm an inveterate lurker here on the Café, but thought I'd let you all know about the final performances of my show "The Big Bupkis! A Complete Gentile's Guide to Yiddish Vaudeville". I'm pretty proud of it: it's heavy on the magic and reviewers have liked it very much. It's an evening of cheap jokes, magic, ukulele music, hypnotism, unpleasant stories about Sophie Tucker, transvestism, and a Yiddish bullfight poem, among other theatrical indignities. Giving nothing away, the show ends with Mr. Baker [that's me!] attempting to behead a volunteer from the audience. The show mixes English and Yiddish, with snarky English supertitles projected over the stage, so, no, you don't have to know Yiddish to 'get it'! For more info, check out the New Yiddish Rep and for reviews, see: Backstage nytheatre.com Jewish Standard Last show in the run will be Saturday, January 30 at 8 PM, so run, don't walk to catch this one of a kind, once in a lifetime experience! Best, Shane Baker |
