Hi Everyone,
I recently got the first 2 seasons on DVD for Fathers Day. I have no idea how my wife knew. Smile

The DVDs are awesome. Being an American I knew very little about the series and it's international popularity. Basicly I would catch an episode now and again on a PBS station that would barely come in. These new DVDs give so much insight to the series with commentaries, interviews, out-takes and some background in the liner notes.

I realize that these 2 seasons are not the very best but I sure am enjoying them.
I was wondering if there were any other Red Dwarf fans in the Café.

Does anyone know when the next DVD release will be?

Hey 0,

Yes, Red Dwarf was alot of fun.
Seasons six through eight are a bit different than the first four or five seasons.

Here's hoping they get together for another season or reunion sometime this decade.

Oh, beware the American pilots. They had no chance. Sorry to be a squid of despair

:)

You may want to check out the books.

They're written buy the guys who wrote the show - Rob Grant & Doug Naylor - if you like the show you'll find them very funny !

1. 'Better than Life' Grant Naylor
2. 'Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers' Grant Naylor

they then wrote one book each - can't remember who wrote which one though !

3. 'Backwards'
4. 'Last Human'

lee,

It's a sci-fi comedy. The show starts with a crewman getting locked in stasis for a few million years... on a ship... with a none too bright computer... and just his annoying roomate brought back as a hologram for company. Then they find out what happened to the pregnant cat brought onboard.

Kryton did seem to enjoy doing the laundry and had to be taught to lie...

It's cold outside
There's no kind of atmosphere

it was a fun show.

Kryton Rules,
that's why I can't wait to get the next DVD release!
Was he in the 3rd season?
There is an appearance in the first episode of the second season, but it's a totally different actor.
Is it just me or is Kryton, Hermen Munster in the future?

Yeah, Kryten is in the third series - he's in all of them upto series 8 !

Kryten's original actor [from series 2], David Ross, wasn't available to commit to a new series when Rob Grant * Doug Naylor decided to make Kryten a continuing character, so he was replaced by Robert Llewellyn.

An all-time great series.

And produced on a tiny budget, or so I gather. (But if I'm wrong, don't blame me, I'm only a hologram.)

Oops, have always avoided watching it! Maybe I just judged it on hearing one Liverpudlian accent and seeing some dodgy looking cardboard scenery. Didn't realise it was any good. One of the actors is the guy that presents 'Robot Wars' isn't he? (Only joking - love Liverpool by the way!)

... I watched this show on PBS last night and couldn't understand it. I didn't get the jokes or get them talking.

The books are the business much better than the series even though I love that.
