Well the original post date is Jan 18, 2010, so I doubt he's talking about 2011!

Ah! Didn't notice that. That's what happens when an old thread comes back.
Thanks for pointing the very important detail out.

I guess I just don't know how to spread the cards w.o showing the indifferrent cards.

Step 2: Tell one of the spectators that you want him to think of a card. Demonstrate how you want him to think of a card as follows. Cut the deck, again secretly pressing down on the inner short end with the right thumb. Lift the upper half of the deck towards you and look at the face card as you say, “I just want you to cut the deck and take a look at the card you’ve cut to. Remember it. That’s important.”
Replace the cut portion letting the spectators get a glimpse of the card you cut to. Now demonstrate the cut again. And again you secretly use the right thumb to open up the inner end of the deck so that you cut to another indifferent card. Show the card you have cut to, saying, “But don’t show to anyone else the card. You will be the only person that knows the name of the card you are thinking of. Got that?” How do you cut to a different card?? |

Hi Yinxzon,
If you know how a Svengali Deck works, the short cards are all the same. In the reverse Svengali, the long cards are all the same. So, if you hold the Reverse Svengali in your right hand, using your thumb to riffle through the cards using the upper right corner, the bottom of the cut will be the force card and the top of the lower packet will be indifferent. Each time you do that, you will get a new, indifferent card. Of course, you can't show the bottom of the top packet (at least not more than once because the spectator would see the force card when you're trying to show them that their choice is free. If you wanted, you could slide the top card of the bottom packet (indifferent card) over with the top packet and show that as the convincer that this is an ordinary deck of cards. More recently, (well, compared to when I used to buy Svengali Decks 30 or 40 years ago) it seems the long/short cards in some decks are angled rather than cut straight across. So, if you riffle with your right hand you would get a different result than if you riffled with your left thumb (assuming you're holding the deck in your right/left hand respectively). Hope I got that right. (no pun intended Doug |

You can get your reverse cut Svengali deck at Dave's Magic Place, http://davesmagicplace.com or http://magicplace.us. They come in red and blue and are hand cut to perfection with 1/8 inch rounded corners.
