Does anyone know where I can buy Bicycle Prestige Plastic Decks in the Black Storage Box instead of the plastic boxes?
Thanks, J. |

They are now all being made in the black box-the old style had defects.

They are ok, I wasn't thrilled with them. I do however think they look great. But I find them to be...not so great for magic.

I have a deck. They also don't fan very well.

Good for poker, which was why they were made. (Though not as good as KEMS, imho)

Is there any plastic card that can be used for card magic in the sense for fanning/faro or any flourish for that matter. I was under the impression it was a flat out no?

They actually faro well. Just a little lacking on the finish which keeps them from fanning smoothly.

The 100% Plastic Rider backs from Vincenzo DiFatta are Far better than the Prestige Decks, and also far better than Kems. They actually work quite well for many sleights. Out of the box they fan poorly, but powder helps a lot. They can NOT be crimped or bridged.
They are available from a number of dealers. Here is a link to them on Elmwood Magic's site: http://www.elmwoodmagic.com/full/Magic-T......6689.htm They are expensive ($14.95) but will last forever. Don

I would disagree that they are better than KEMs, and I also think they can be crimped.
The KEM, prestige, and Difatta deck all faro well

I guess for a breather or something similar, this is ok, but if you do tricks that require a corner crimp or a bridge put in on the fly, you will end up with multiple crimped cards in the deck, and the likelihood of confusing yourself. Not something I would suggest doing with a deck you want to last a long time (the only reason I can see for using plastic cards anyway) As for Kems, to each his own. If you like them, full speed ahead. I have hated them for years, and every time I hear they have been changed or improved, I try them again, only to find that I still hate them. But, hey, that's me. By now anyone who knows me here also knows that what I post is MHO only. Your mileage may vary. Don

Certainly, the crimp is there for the life of the card. (and the corner crimp would destroy it, I was thinking more along the lines of the breather) Maybe its the poker player in me, but I love the way KEMS faro. The difatta deck is wonderful, although I only have one... I doubt Ill use it.

My Prestige cards smell like bleach and celery... They have for months. I'm not sure the smell will ever go away.

Michael, the smell goes away after a bit. And the newer ones are supposed to have cut down on that issue (the black box).

I bought two packs in the black boxes.
It's true they don't fan well at all, but seem to handle great for everything else, especially Faros. |

I also found them at my local Walgreens. I think they were on sale for $5.99 over the holidays, I know I didn't pay more for them. Personally, I don't like the feel of them, but I think I could get used to them. Also, is it me, or are they kind of loud?

They give off a really loud wispy sound...and I find that when I do an in-the-hands riffle shuffle, they feel very soft...it's hard to explain, they bend very easily, and spring back very easily. The only thing I can compare it to is 2 springs...one of light tension and one of hard tension, they both spring back to the same shape, but the light tension spring feels flimsly...now that I think about it my comparison was just as crappy as my original explanation...oh well you get the point.

I have the newer, black-box plastic prestige bikes, as well as the earlier plastic boxed "dura-flex" prestige bikes. I also have the DiFatta deck; but, my observations here are solely on the "Prestige" decks...
The newer black-box prestige cards fan better; but, not well. They are not nearly as shiny as the earlier plastic-boxed prestige cards; which, incidentally say "Made in China" on the Ace of Spades. Newer, black boxed prestige cards say, "U.S. Playing Card Company, Cincinnati, USA". The surface of the newer cards is also smoother; that is, less "pebbled" than the earlier cards... I did think that the earlier, Chinese cards were cut cleaner. The black-boxed Prestige cards seem to have rather rough, burred edges compared to other plastic cards I've used... Your mileage may vary... -A |
