I have been doing magic on and off since I was about 6, and I am 21 now. I worked in a restaurant in 2006 and then took a break from magic completely. I would like to get help and interact with people with the same interests as me on this forum, because in my area it is hard to find any magic around here. Besides magic I am a fulltime student in college and a personal trainer. I found the forum by googling magician's forums. What I am looking for is becoming more active. I know of 3 rings in the IBM that are in the ATL area. I want to get back into the restaurants in about 2 weeks and then hook up with some agents to get some bookings. I would like to take it to the next level and do it more. Does anyone have any suggestions besides IBM? And how many of you are in the IBM and do you think you benefit from it?

Just keep reading this site and you will learn a lot. To me there are many different ways to go about it. Booking ones self is the best if you can handle it.
(works for me)I happen to be small and happy but a big stage show you would need management. Restaurant. If you have the time you can land those on your own. I generally don't try to encroach on another entertainers "Turf" but I have a sense of Integrity. It's Professional manners if you ask me. You might want to look around those places so you can say,"Down the street at x they have a magician on Thursdays. I was wondering if....... I've given a free hour or so at times to show what I can do for their patrons. When you book yourself you make decisions and concessions on your own terms. I really have never benefited from agents. They were all a headache to me. If I get a call from one I just tell them I don't do 3rd party stuff. It's harder to book on your own but each door you open is YOURS. If you don't want to be huge try doing it on your own. You DO NOT have to be famous to be successful. |

Well....I don't think there is really anything wrong with doing both...or all 3 for that matter. I want to start back with restauran magic, because I am familar with how it works. I do want to start doing corporate events and shows eventually. I have a friend who is one of the top jugglers around and he knows many good agents in the Atlanta area. I was thinking about doing both private shows and work with an agent. And is anyone here involved with the IBM? Like I said I really don't know anyone in the area that I could work with.
