Sorry to add another topics about websites, I did some searches and didn't see anything...
But I was wondering if anyone has used or would recommend Wix.com. I played around with it a bit and the designs are really nice. I know it's flash and that's generally not SEO friendly, but they claim to have a better results with search engines, unlike other flash websites. Can anyone verify this, or have any information on them? Thanks in advance! Justin

Ok just looked around for WIX based sites.. and it looks like they are working hard to get around the reasons Flash and SEO don't mix
the things that still are not being faced.. Menu is Flash not CSS this means that search engines will not follow the menu Using some new standards this is good, but currently its being tested not widely used I found some bugs in one of the sites.. the link went to the homepage in chrome.. but to the right place in IE so YEAH its better but no cigar a wix site vrs a wordpress site.. wordpress will outrank it on every level.. and because it gets more traffic it will get more business

Not only that it strips out some of the users ability to surf the page and site
also Google is indexing it.. but sees no content on the home page http://budurl.com/6vak also I am getting errors on it that keep dumping me back to the wix.com homepage.. and not a custom 404 from your site.. I love the concept of what wix is working on.. just don't think it is ready for business application

Jerry, check cross-browser compatibility. Your cite didn't work very well in Opera - but I did "get on" the site. No text, no links, just a background, your picture, and a couple of things that looked like they were indicating that something wqas loaded (but nothing else did load unless you include error messages)>
Sure, "everyone I know around here have never had a trouble getting on the site." And pretty much everybody I receive a letter from knows my address (excluding junk mail). And most of the people who call me know my phone number. Thom . |

Thom,
Opera doesn't fully support flash which is why you are having issues.. Apple is phasing flash out of their entire line meaning no flash on IPHONE no Flash on ITouch.. NO flash on IPad the reason this is so huge is because Udi Madar and Matt Cutts have said that their will be over 500 major changes to Googles algorithm this year.. and the CEO said that all new features are being designed for the mobile market.. meaning if your site is FLASH this year you will be left behind..

Well said, Mike. You're one of the few who 'get it' and see the current state, near future state and long term trends on the web.
I also stand by my assertion that 2010 is the Year of the Mobile. By the end of THIS YEAR, having a mobile app or site will be the gold rush that will mirror the 1990's assertion that you must have a web page. |

And of course with the plugin wptouch for wordpress - you already have a mobile friendly site if your site is wordpress powered.

Free Web hosting is SUCH a bad idea for businesses..
read the TOS many of the sites that give "Free" hosting also say that whatever you post becomes theirs to use as they want. They have no Tech support.. they can close whenever they want.. (one just went down not long ago0 I cringe when businesses use free hosting.. by doing so its more like a hobby than a business
