I'm trying to create (or rather recreate, as it has probably been done before) an effect:
I show the spectator a necklace chain. I cover part of the chain with flash paper (with a paper rose, for example), light it and a pendant appears on the chain. The necklace chain and pendant are then given to the spectator as a gift. It's meant as a way to present a gift rather than a part of a magic act/performance. I have two weeks to learn it and I'll probably perform it only once so I'm looking for a simple method. I have a rough notion of how I might do it but I'd like to research existing material for more ideas. I don't know if it's OK to reveal/discuss my method here so PM me if you need info about my current approach. Do you know of any similar effects? I'd appreciate your feedback/ideas/suggestions. |

I suggest you buy "tagged" by ricghard sanders - its a card trick but once you know that method - you will see exactly what I mean and how you could easily adapt it to have a pendant "appear" on a chain visually whilst your wearing it- and then be able to hand it out as a give away.

I am familiar with "Tagged" but it's not quite what I am looking for. My current approach allows the chain to be completely examinable and I don't have to be wearing it during the perfomance.

The effect could be had, using the method in one phase of Dan Garrett's The Faustus Ring (a ring and string routine). He has a phase where the ring is held in one hand, and the string is dipped into the hand and it links. Part of the method would work with flash paper, instead of dipping into the hand.
The routine is in Magic With Finger Rings by Jerry Mentzer, as well as in Dan Garrett's Garrett Does The U.K. |

My routine is also on my DVD "CloseUp Connivery." It is much more accessible for learning in this media than the print media, IMHO.

I have a cut and restore chain and pendant you could do before handing it out, if you are interested.
