I know someone has already posted this link some time back, but I would really like to ask if someone know what the name of this illusion is, and whose it is. And sadly, I know someone has already ripped this beautiful illusion off... just want to follow the right path, please help if anyone know. Yours, CardFreak007

It is called "Thru steel" and its created by Andre Kole. I know Copperfield and Andre's son, Tim have the rights to perform it, don't know if others do. Tim Kole has done it on TV, outside actually (cant remember what special it was); his prop is not as massive as Copperfield's but the effect is the same.

I have seen a youtube link which is someone else doing this illusion, but instead of a plate of steel, he uses a huge plate of a kind of wood. But I can't find the link now... if only DC and AK have the right, so may be that magician's one is a rip-off?

Laszlo,
Be carefull with a statement like that or people will think that Andre Kole's Thru steel illusion was not invented by him. Sidney Josolyne created another version of passing a person through a sheet of iron using a 3 fold screen at each side. (very different from Kole's thru steel illusion) So the effect of passing through steel is not new, however the version and methode that Andre Kole created is unique to him and he owns the rights to his creation. |

Yes Andre created another. Sidney's vertical while Andre's horizontal. But still the idea comes from Sidney Josolyne.

Even Houdini asked permission from Josolyne because of similarity. (going trough a solid object) So Josolyne was the first who did the Thru Steel illusion. I agree Andre Kole is a great magician and a great mind. |

But you can read about this in the William Kalush and Larry Sloman book named The Secret Life of Houdini Book on page 312. It doesn't matter you do the illusion horizontal or vertical Josoline is the inventor for the Thru Steel illusion. Best, Las |

In order to do the effect as Copperfield does it, one would need to contact Andre Kole. That is interesting about the history but it doesn't help too much with the origional question. Also Jim Steinmeyer relesed a version of walking through a brick wall performed by the Spencers that I believe is available to buy. It's a fairly strong effect as well.
