On monday a new product will be launch on all major american TV
as an infomercial spot :

Fushigi, the magic gravity ball :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNiiTaz1u......embedded

They already have a website :
https://www.fushigiball.com/?mid=742426

I'm very disapointed by this ad, as they'll sell this as something new, despite the fact it's contact juggling.

The ad is not accurate as they present the product as a magic ball easy to master...

I can tell you that the contact juggling community is very upset by this worldwide !

For me it's bulls*** in its purest form, just an attempt to make quick money.

What are your thoughts about this ?

I think it is a load of crap. I contact juggle , and this is full of b.s. CJ is not easy, and has a steep initial learning curve. I hope they sell zero acrylics for this misleading garbage. The only thing missing from the video is the Shamwow guy....

Unethical business. It's contact juggling, not something new. If they market it by tv commercials, people will buy it without understanding how hard it is to learn.

Contact juggling
and the ad is very misleading because these moves are not just doable when you first pcik up a conract jugling ball.
And it is not a magic trick.

seems like tele-sell and the like and aimed on impulsive buyers.

Wow,
What's really interesting is one of the guys featured in the video (the one demonstrating the best and highest level of moves) was just at Groundhog's this past weekend and he won a Phil 2 years ago. Kenny Tombs is his name. He is a very accomplished contact juggler (one of the best I have seen, next to Michael Moschen). He had a Tshirt on with this logo on it and mentioned the product during his late night cabaret show, I just didn't think much of it, not being into contact very much. I find it interesting that such an accomplished practitioner of the craft is associated with what appears to be a pretty deceitful pitch of a product. Very interesting indeed.

If you have a facebook page here you can follow the marketing (and the very bad feeling of contact jugglers about it) :

Some one came up with a cute name for a cj ball and is using it to sell a $20. ball, good for them, hope they make a mint.

some people will buy this and learn how to do it, and they will join us jugglers and have fun.

Some people will buy this and try it for a day and quit, as it will be to hard for them. How ever, they now will know how hard it is and will have a better appreciation for what we do.

More exposure for cj'ing, some juggler makes a buck, win win.

Ok the name is stupid, but other than that...

§20 just to have an object that you don't use and the knowledge of how difficult it is? Seems overpriced to me.
The other way earning money is to produce something you can expect to be valuable to basicly all of your coutomers.

Wouldn't it be fairer to the potential buyers, if it was more clearly stated in the ad, how difficult the manipulation is?
If the benefit is mostly for the juggling community, why having non-jugglers pay for it?

I don't like it.

I teach cj'ing (to non jugglers) and most people pick up the basics in less than an hour, and some of the moves they are showing you don't even let go of the ball!
they are selling a ball for $20. and you get a video with it. Last cj ball I got I paid $25. for and no video.

The book "juggling for the complete klutz" clames that juggling is not that hard and with practice even a klutz can do it. Is this wrong? or is it just because it is on tv?

The add is a stupid, over the top infomercial, selling a juggling toy. the only reason I bothered to post on this is a juggler is trying to make a buck with his ability and everyone is getting bent on it.

Sorry y'all din't think of it first, just look at a the support you would have gotten if ya had.

What I don't like is it's being marketed as a new concept. Yet it's not. The main focus of the moves seems to be isolations, which are older than cj-ing is since they are moves taken from mime.

I have nothing against a juggler making money from his skills. I don't like anything that claims to be new when it isn't.

It'd be like marketing a diabolo as some new crazy concept and not the ancient artform that it is.

If you come up with a new idea, like the new axels created by Sundia, then you have the right to market that as new. But they still call it a diabolo, which is what it is, rather than claiming it's some new creation.

So in short. It's great to see juggling being marketed to non jugglers. But call it what it is rather than pretend it's something you've invented.

One could argue that renaming the art has been done in the past ;
Here I think about "contact juggling", which was an appellation created by James Ernest in his book, even Michael Moschen himself didn't call it like that, but "Dynamic manipulation". The fact is that "Contact Juggling" works because the name is relevant : the ball stays in "CONTACT" with the body while juggling.

But Fushigi !?!

Plain bull**** for me.
