Aldo,
Is there any kind of process you go through when developing new tricks and routines? Do you keep note books and will we some day see The Lost Note Books of Aldo Colombini? Craig

Craig, not really. I do not have a specific process. Most of the time is just....coming to my mind. I read a lot and I fancy to have a good knowledge of basic stuff; from that it is not a long stretch coming up with something.
Basically, if I read something that I like, I always try to come up with something EASIER or different keeping the same effect and it works for me. For example, in my routine "Contact Colors" I realized that the Oscar Wigle principle, keeps the cards in the same order even if you cut the deck, so after the basic coincidence, I came up with the production of the four Aces first and then all the color separation, not an amazing thing, but creating, one of my favorite routines. I also used to come up with 'new' (go easy using the word NEW!!!!) stuff from catalogues. In the catalogues, they would give you only the description of the effect and not the method. I would then try to come up with a method to that effect and I would end up ordering the trick. Sometimes, my solution was too close or similar to the original routines, some other times my method was totally different...and voila', you have a new effect! |
