This happened to me too unfortunately. I had no idea what to do I figured out that If after a trick, they ask to see another, say "ok, come find me later at lunch" or something. If you tell them to come SEARCH FOR YOU! Then you will definitely know they want to see more. So if you don't want to be naggish, then have them come to you.

Think back...were the card tricks just card tricks? Meaning, they were just demonstrations of magic prowess. Or, were they entertaining pieces of magic that involved your audience, and not just in the role of the person who picks and signs the card. If you're entertaining, then it's not just about the magic, it's about you and YOU are who you want the girls to like.

I am also in yr 9
Try just performing at lunch break, sit on a wall somewhere and do some XCM (the worm works well and is easy to learn from youtube) and people will gather and you will get into a busking situation, You get to perform for 15-25 people and don't burn yourself out, great. Or you could even use flash paper if you are doing this but not in school. If you just want to perform for a table of 5-10, try asking a friend before to ask you to do a trick, you can then get into it. |

Your magic tricks opened some doors for you with the ladies and maybe even some guys that wouldn't normally be your friends.
Right now LIFE is dealing you some cards, it's your turn to choose a card! Learn to spot the aces in life...and also the good looking queens! Attention(although it feels freaking great) is probably the least important things that magic can bring into your life. Believe in what your magic can do for you. Good luck and take care.
All you have to do to change your life, is to change your daily habits!

I graduated from High School and have had a bit of experience being the shy freshman kid doing card tricks.
Basically, here is the best way to do things. If you want to perform to others. Break the ice first. And, this is true for performing out of school as well. Start up conversation, or when they are having conversation with you, ask if they would like to see a trick.. Sounds lame to do, right? But, it works because they don't know what to expect. Also, a good way I got into doing card magic was when people during lunch would play group card games, like Egyptian Ratscrew or whatever the game is called, I would wait till a game is done and do something flashy with the cards like a Sybil or Hot Shot Cut and people would want to see more. I have to say I was hella shy. And, nerves were getting the best of me. One time I was so nervous during a Triumph routine, I almost had a nervous breakdown. I learned the classic force and did Stigmata, and it changed things from there on in. Trust me, I know how you guys feel. I was bad at practicing, so I always improvised during a card trick...I wish I wasn't like that. First off, don't improvise. Learn a routine to the patter! Then, do it at school. Effects I would do at school: Vanishing Pinky by Meir Yedid. Twisting Arm Illusion. Flip stick vanish with a pencil (I got so good at it), make the pencil go up your nose. Even though I basically taught the school how to do that...they loved it Stigmata ACR, don't do too many phases. Keep it a mystery. Just do the first phase, card to mouth, pop up, that's all you need. Triumph Twisting the Aces, Weighted Aces (never performed this in school, but I wish I did) Biddle Trick 2 card transpo 2 card monte Lennart Green Snap Deal Retention vanish, sleeving a coin Those are all the tricks I knew back in High School....Except the aces effects. They got me great mileage. Learn a great coin vanish. Don't french drop your way through school. Get a retention vanish down. By sophomore year, I could easily sleeve a coin with one hand. Something I bet your audience would love right now is the Pinky breaking effect "Freaky". DON'T EVER EVER take the bait when they say, "Do it again!" Even though you won't get caught, if they see it again...it just ruins everything. The mystery of seeing something for the first and only time! People are so used to online videos were they can rewind with the click of a button, don't fall into that trap. You need to be in control, know when to say no! Magic has changed a lot for me. But, don't think you need to perform everyday. And do not make the trick just a card trick, evolve from that. Use presentation make yourself interact with the crowd to have a good time. That is how they will remember it. |

Learn some new stuff, make sure it is full of your personality, get it down perfect, and just wait. Wait for the one perfect moment. Wait for a group of people and do it once for that group. Then, all you do is talk about that one trick. Talk it up, and keep the conversation going. Make sure she gets your personality. Next time, hold on to those tricks. If you get a good reaction, milk it. Just insist that you can't do it again and you can't tell em how it's done. Wait, though, just wait for that perfect moment, and don't mess it up after the fact.

Douglas Lippert quoted Max Malini above. If you can, you should try something Malini-esque. If you get a chance slip a card into one of the girls' books or backpacks. When they ask to see a trick, do a card to impossible location type effect.

How do you know their comments were good if they were talking about you in French...? Unless you speak French... OOOOOH, you meant French class. Anyway, I hear you. I do a lot of magic at my school, and I love it.
