Joe Mauro -
`On this thread, a week later, someone says they performed 3 of the tricks from the first DVD at a paid gig. Is that believable?` In reply to your thoughts - which I fully understand - my answer is yes - it is believable. Sure, normally I would not feel confident enough in a routine to perform it to paying customers for quite some time. However, with these routines and Less work on the DVDs, if your 100 percent confident with a crd control and a d***** lift, then the rest is all down to performance, onfidence and audience management. Fortunately, I have been performing for a good 15 years now, so none of these things phase or concern me. In a nutshell, less stuff is exactly what it says on the tin. SOME magicians I think may be dissapointed at the lack of fancy moves , multiple control techniques, and in depth routines and find these routines by Lee too short. This is fine by me......The workers out there know that the realism is - all you need is one GOOD card control, one GOOD double lift - and top that with your character and acting - that's all you ACTUALLY NEED! Again - thanks lee, great stuff! |

I am a full time working professional and would never realease anything I did not use and not was not tested. There are no complicated effects on here just simple ideas and routines that the spectators enjoy, lots of visual, fast magic entertaining magic. And I have put more than seven routines that are exclusive to myself over the two voliumes, so its a mix of my own effects and some of which is already out there and some from my lecture. I hope this helps a bit, but please feel free to ask any questions. Many thanks again. Lee.

Hi Joe,
These DVDs were produced with both the professional and amateur magician in mind. The point of the project was to teach some relatively easy routines that packed a punch. If you can do a d****e l**t and basic card control, then you will be ready to go. That's not to say that there isn't harder stuff, like Bonaces, but most of the routines would be able to be performed by a 'worker' in no time at all. Therefore I totally understand and agree with what pkmagic said. If you're not already a performer, then these DVDs also are perfect due to the simplicity of the routines, although obviously we don't expect people to just go out and perform them right away. Some time ago we released a very successful project starring Matthew J. Dowden (1 Deck... 14 Tricks... 24 Hours) and at the time some magicians said it was promoting the fact that with little practice, a magician could go out and perform the material on the DVDs. That was never the point. What we were saying, was that if you're a working magician, then you will see routines that pack a punch and that are extremely easy to do. Matthew had never performed most of the routines before, but because he's such a great performer and they were self-working, they played out brilliantly on the streets of London to passersby. 'The Step System Project' is a similar DVD set, although not self-workers like the '1 Deck...' DVDs. To everyone else, thank you so much for your kind words both on here and to Lee and myself privately. We're really happy that you thought your purchase was a good one. Best, Russ |

Just received these so will do a review hopefully (time permitting) early next week.
Had a little look at some of the performances, well more accurately was drawn to a couple of the routines which inspired me to get these DVDs (Trans-box-ition and Strike Two), outstanding is the word that comes to mind. Strike Two is just pure 'eye candy', so much magic for so little work! Back soon with a full review. Gary Jones.

It's a great opportunity to learn someone else's take on an effect and it might just 'relight the fire' to include it in one's own routine. Just as "Business Lunch" did with me. Yes Indeed, I have been lecturing the effect and thanking Mr Kuffs at every chance, I am so pleased he let me use this routine it is wonderfull.
I have got a lot of use out of it over the years. I also again would like to HIGHLY reccomend his mind stunts DVDs if you do not already have them. On the DVD there is a performance only of this effect but it can be found in my lecture notes which are attached to volume 1. Being a working magician myself and putting out a DVD featuring effects and routines that are performed in live situatuions, and for people who want to get more booking, I wanted to include a couple of nice effects that invloved getting your business cards out in an entertaining way, and this is just pefect. Thanks again Patrick.

I have just finished watching both dvds & really echo what Rogers has already said, in his very honest review !!
In my opinion get this set just so you can see in action how Lee performs the effects & gets huge reactions, which is why we all do magic !! Best Wishes Mark Southworth |

Also some of the handlings of the effects have been streamlined a bit since the notes was written, and as Gary said its nice to be able to see how some of the effects play in a live situation. I hope this helps. And I hope you enjoyed the notes as well. Many thanks, Lee.

Hi Lee, I got these last week and watched them straight away, I was very impressed mate, I used your card to pocket routine at my gig on Saturday and got a great reaction, also I loved your thoughts on Whack your pack, that is a routine I have used off and on for years but your walkaround version is the one I will be using from now on.
I almost hope not too many see this set as there is so much commercial useable material, I must also mention the move by Ollie Mealing (SP?) as that really caught me so what chance have lay folk got? Well done mate, I wish you all the success in the world with this project. Chris |

Many thanks Christopher,
I am really pleased you enjoyed the DVD's (I hope you enjoyed them as much I did yours and Gary's) Yeah, I played around with lots of variations of the Whack Your Pack plot, then realised that the simple one was the was to go, I tweaked it a bit and now it is also another effect I use all the time, and it has served me very well. The Ollie Mealing move is just great, since I learnt it, it has been one of the most usefull things I have ever had in my arsenal of effects. (Thanks Ollie) There are so many ways to go with it as well. I am also glad you like to cards to pocket, I think Ollies move adds a lot to this plot, and makes it very walkaround friendly. Lee.

The STEP System by Lee Smith & RSVP Magic
There is so much information on this dvd set. Ravi and Lee discuss so much more than just the tricks. If you fast forward through anything just to get to the explantions, it will be your loss! Everything from audience mangement, how to approach a group to what to expect from them in different settings is covered. Russ Stevens has done the usual great job of filming and producing the whole thing You get multiple perforances of some effects to show how they can play in various situations, all followed by clear explanations. The key factors for me when looking for new material are restting and walkaround (no tables) effects. Most of the effects on this set can be done standing with no tables, and even better, the spectators often only need to think of a card. So even if they are loaded up with drinks and handbags etc this wont stop you! I'll give you the highlights that stood out for me.... Ice Breaker is a variation of a trick that I have been using already. I have been doing pretty much the first phase of this for over 2 years, so I know how well it plays, but when you follow that up with the visual change and then combining 2 spectators selctions as lee does, it more than trebles the impact of the effect! the whole routine flows so well. After the first phase you will get spectators asking to do it again, and that's just what you do! Trans-box-ition is another great effect using 2 selections. I've been working James Brown's Box Clever, so it was natural to give Lee's effect some time and effort. The thing I love about Trans-box-ition, is there is a moment in the effect when the cards seem to jumpimg in what you could say a triangular pattern - from the deck, to the box, to between their hands. This is a lovely part of the trick and the cards really do bounce and hop from place to place! Lee has also added a 3rd phase to this, including a third signed selection, don't overlook this! Bold Business, a drawing duplication - no wallets, peek devices etc used just a stack of your cards and some balls required. Don't be scared, it's awesome stuff again! Third Degree is great as it uses a "thought of card". If you play this right you will be very pleased with the reactions it gets this has to be one of the most powerful effects on the set!! Fifth Element is a great in the hands, thought of card effect. I have played with different variations of this effect, but this is the one I'll be using. Lee has stripped it right down to get the routine as simple and direct as possible without any hard moves, yet it knocks them for six every time! Bonaces is a releativly new idea from Lee. Its great as again, it uses 2 selections, its not hard and the kicker will fry them when they open their hands! I've been playing with this and some other ideas to make it the ace production that will be in my repetoire. All the material here is direct, powerful magic. There are no long winded storylines, counting, dealing etc This is the most advice and material that I have got from a single purchase in years. Thank you Lee for sharing this with us, and putting so much effort into the project I have got more than I could ever expect from it, and I'm sure any hobbiest, professional, and working magician will benefit massively from it also. Matt.Magician,
Thank you, I am so pleased you got so much from the project. I would love to hear your version of Bonaces sometime, there are many ways to go with this after you know the method. I look forward to seeing what others do with some of the routines. Review King - I am glad you lked the trailer, Russ did a grand Job, I was very impressed myself when I first saw it. I thought it was an intro to some new movie with all that music and stuff going on. LOL. Lee.

I would like to say that this dvd was exellent viewing.Easy powerful magic the working magicians dream in the real world of magic, these effects give you more time to work on audience management, presentation. The dvd is first class,un-edited straight on camera shots with genuine audience reactions ( unlike a lot of dvd's on the market today )I agree with most comments on this thread that Lee does a fantastic job,and not forgetting Ravi for his important questions on these effects.Well done Lee..
Best Wishes Graham...
