In my opinion, this is one of the great classics of magic, and performed well and in the proper setting is very entertaining and amazing. On that note, I would like to get an oversized switchblade and have it converted into a color changing knife! ACE

A version of the color changing knives I always wanted to play with is Matt Schulien's as described in the big Matt Schulien book by Phil Willmarth. What a great book that is!

Whit hits you with both barrels. It goes without saying that his personality and presentation are wonderful. There are also some really nice handling techniques in that routine.
For a quick walk around bit, I like the Mike Skinner routine. |

I highly recommend the Joe Mogar knives for the Whit Haydn routine. This is a set of three knives with a "staghorn" like finish on the black and smooth finish on the white. This is very important as it enables you to tell which knife is which in your pocket, and to pull the gimmicked knife out of your pocket with the correct side showing without having to "peek" at your hand. You can keep all three knives in the same pocket without a holder, and that enables instant reset.

Whit the whole routine moves with such grace and beauty. You tell them nobody can do that switch with them holding the wrist. You let that sink in, then later you not only come back and DO it, but TOP IT! Holy cow.

Well, I'm going to do a colour changing spectator routine and see if I get away with it.

BTW, the Whit Haydn knives by Mogar, and the booklet or DVD of my routine the "Intricate Web of Distraction" are available at your favorite magic dealer, at http://www.scoundrelsstore.com, or direct from me at whit@whithaydn.com
I highly recommend this routine both for walk-around and formal close-up shows. |

Thank you Majik 1>>> End quote I'm not a dealer but a Worker. My advice comes from 40 years of performing magic and spending a fortune trying everything out for real people.(I'm not a creator, but a performer, and I like to support the great minds that give us this great magic, I just add my own personality to the effects.) The original color changing knives that I know of are from I think Robbins? and had a routine with standard moves in the written instructions. (I don't know if they do now) Very nice stuff, I used to do it in Jr. Hi in '72 when they were the only knives available(we did not have any videos then, so we had to read!) For the new generation that does not like to read, TAKE POP'S ADVICE! He is very creative and from what I can see, has a couple of the standard moves of that routine(but he does the "good stuff" that is not there) and he created it into an original masterpiece. On DVD you can see how it is supposed to look. He is an excellent teacher and will make it a lot easier for you to do. And the old inexpensive set can't hold a candle to Mogar knives. You can do a lot more moves very easier with the Mogar knives. (If you do like to read, POP has the book of his routine also. My suggestion is to get both, because you can learn more by both reading and watching. Definitely get Pop's DVD from him above. And also the knives from him at the same time so you have everything and can get right to work. You will be glad you did. You pay for quality. It is worth it to pay a little extra and get quality because in the long run you will pay a lot more if you get the cheaper stuff, and it not working, and then you get disappointed and put it in the drawer and give it up OR pay again to buy the best. ALWAYS BUY THE BEST FIRST, and save a lot more money, I know this from many years of experience. Take my advice on this. Believe me, I used to be a cheap skate. Now I just buy the best first. The Mogar knives work a lot easier than others(and I have a lot of different knives). Once you get the Mogar Knives from POP, you will love them. After that, if you want more knives then I suggest you call Mogar. First look at the Mogar site. And then call him. He is real nice to talk to. I wanted one of each! I was hooked! I got about $1000 of knives from him (over a few months) because they are all so cool. And I love them all. I still want many more he has. After you learn Pop's routine, look into the big and Giant knives, they are awesome, and Mogar has a DVD giving you lots of more moves, but not the audience tested commercial routine Pop does. GO POP! ACE

No, Jefferson did not invent the folding pocket knife. I think it was the Romans, 100 BC.
But my act is "educational as well as entertaining..." |

OK, I didn't think so. I just wanted to make sure because I could not find it anywhere.
A very fun routine though. I really enjoyed it.

It is a very handsom pocket knife and really looks like something a gentleman would carry. The color difference with this combination is pretty subtile and might make it difficult to notice a change in low light. This knife looks and feels like a very high quality knife which is amazing considering the price is like $26 for one or $52 if you get the non gimicked sunset yellow mate to go along with it. So anyway, I like it. |

Whit, I think your color changing knife routine is absolutely rocking cool. I can only wonder how many kids, after seeing your routine, have gone back to their homes and schools and convinced their parents and teachers that Thomas Jefferson invented the pen knife. Who knows, you may change American history if you can get enough of us around the country to spout this off as fact. We need to put it on Wikipedia. That will help establish it as fact.

I really couldn't countenance other people supporting me in a deliberate lie. What are you thinking? You should consider those kids, Derrick...
