Interesting episode tonight.
Circus/Sideshow related.
Anyone else see it?

Wait ... wait ... don't tell me...

"The man took everyone's money and they filed up on the stage to see the naked girl in the blade box, but the girl wasn't naked at all, and when many of the men protested, the guy had disappeared with their money!"

I like yours better.
It has,at least,SOME basis in fact.
For instance, yours called it a bladebox and not a knife cabinet.
I think yours would know the difference between a gadjo and a gaucho.
There was an awful lot of that.

Actually, I thought it was pretty good, considerin' the source.

I almost expected the line "there was this gaucho..." to lead to an example of the "let's use a single word of jargon to look authentic" school of writing, but nope! My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) is that certainly a Gypsy would never use "gaucho" when he meant "gadjo", but others on the lot commonly conflate the two.

Anybody know who played the giant? Trace of an accent, never seen him before, what's with the "mentally challenged" style (acting or not?)

Depicting sideshow performers acting that way was the one truly accurate thing in that episode.

Finally saw the whole episode - gotta second Todd's opinion.

I failed to recognize Netherlands-born Carel Struycken as the giant (older version, in typical "Cold Case" style) but I still don't recognize who played the younger version of him (might have if I'd looked carefully at the credits).

And I really can't make myself believe that "Carnivale" principal Michael J. Anderson looked anything like the actor playing him in the flashbacks.

I liked the episode despite its inaccuracies. I did like the fact that the ring leader said, "Bally" instead of "Barking". Smile

Now Pete, calm down. No one said anything about JS#3. And no one that knows JS#3 thinks he "acts" mentally challenged.
