O.K. I now own a mastermind deck. Its the old style - not bikes, however, love it. So easy yet deceptive.
Now......anyone in the U.K. selling the New Bicycle versions? If not - why not! Please? Anyone? |

Ok, I made a couple of adjustments. I took out the KS and JH and placed a Bike joker on the bottom of the deck. I kept a gimmicked card on the top of the deck as no one will see anything but the pip anyway. No one notices that these two cards are missing. I left the old joker in because I don't think anyone in the audience will care, if indeed they notice, that it is not a bike joker.
And why the big deal about bikes? If they are not bikes, so what? Its a deck of cards. If you are thinking about switching decks, why? No one should say they want to see the deck, unless, of course you are doing this for friends and family. But in a formal show, you should to be able to control the situation. If you need to switch, just do something other than cards in between then take out another red deck. They might be bikes, but again, unless you are doing this for friends, family or the local magic club, most likely no one will notice. I really don't see the big deal about any of these things.

Otherwise, you're back to needing a switch. Not that the switch should be that difficult -- just dive into your pockets with both hands and one comes out with some prop you were fishing for, and the other with the (now switched) deck. Another approach for transitioning into or out of this deck while staying with cards would be to perform something like Cardtoon with an obviously special deck, as there's motivation for leaving / returning to the "normal" deck of cards. |

Just a thought - but I wonder if Muphys will be stocking these? I do hope so, then our local suppliers will be able to get hold of these too. For such a great deck, it should really be out there - more available!

While it's nice (I guess) that Chris is offering these "Monte Cristo" decks for sale ("Mastermind" is simply his own name for them)....realize that this deck was sold to magicians 100 YEARS ago...

And that has remained almost a complete secret until now, when every tom, dick, and larry will know about it. Hopefully, after a few years it will once again be forgotten.

The two court cards, placed on the top and bottom, allow for a strong display of the deck and makes it easy to overhand or riffle shuffle and wind up retaining the two reg. court cards on the top and bottom. Having these cards in these positions is especially important in the "ACAAN" routine when the counted portion and the remaining portion of the decks are displayed separately. I agree that the Joker is not useful; I have removed it from the deck. In the past I typically used a pointer card to keep track of orientation (say 9S) on the bottom of the deck as opposed to a regulation court card, but I have noticed that the court card seems to improve the spread display....perhaps the addition of a card whose face is full of color changes the way my mind sees things. I put a few subtle pencil/sharpie dots on the front and back to keep track of orientation. Joe |

Many years ago Chris made some major advertisements into the Precognition Deck - Chris Kenworthy. These were two page ads in both Magic Magazine and Genii. I spoke to Chris as he was out at the time. He hyped it. Sadly the ads were all hype, and I told him so, as he asked me to let him know when I received the product. I did not purchase another product from him again. Sounds like you folks are happy with Mastermind, and I am glad.

Let me say this effect is outstanding as has been discussed throughout this thread and I will also say Chris's customer service is outstanding. Try this in the hand, it does not need a table or mat

I got Bernd's (cardmaker) last Monte Christo deck and I was thrilled with it.
I fooled a lot of magicians with it. Great effect, great deck, brilliant idea! I was sad and happy when I saw the mastermind deck in Blackpool. Sad, because I had the idea that it was not that well known among magicians, and happy because I got myself a spare deck and don't have to fear about ruiing my only one. As I said this is great. Killer effect and very easy, let's just hope it's not going to be the next Stripper or Svnegali deck.... If you can pull of derren browns psychological force of the 3 of diamonds, you've got yourself a killer ACAAN with this deck........(assuming you have a 3 of diamonds deck). |

Show the deck well shuffled. Shuffle some more, get the spec to touch any card as you deal from left to right hand. Her chosen card is now returned to the deck, re-shuffled, and she now guesses where her chosen card is located. Of course she is correct and as far as the spec is concerned this is as good (as far as I'm concerned, better) than any ACAAN currently available. I am very fortunate to have 5 different force cards now, and I sometimes carry all 5 with me as I have no problems repeating this effect.

Gutted that 2 of the cards are missing from these decks. It makes complete sense to, at least supply the whole deck gimmicked so owners can customise as they wish. I can not perform this effect in the hands now, as I cannot control the bottom card in an overhand shuffle.
