I was playing around with a logo idea and I wanted to get some feedback on it. I think I might be in the right direction. It's my first attempt to come up with a logo.

Some simple logo advice - make sure its generally twice as wide as it is tall . . . most services these days and even websites have easy placement for a logo that is in those dimensions - take a look at linkedin - the best sized/looking logos are in a 1x2 size.

What are you trying to communicate with your logo, what is your intended character or show type, and who is your target market? Without knowing more, its hard to answer your question.

Ok here is a thought for you.

with teh big snow storm here I had to cancell all my shows and postpone them so I had soem free time.

this is not an offer for a free logo BUT here are some thoughts for you.

this logog will work for many styles it says magician, professional and fun.

granted it was soemthing I jsut through together but I wanted you to see a few options.

as a full time magician/illusionist and part time graphis designer I like helping others.
however whether you get me or soem one else if you can you really shoudl get a some one to design soething for you unless you really really wnat to do it o your own and have the capabilities.

agian whether is me or soem one like Kyle peron who is onthe Café more then a mgician sh oudl be alowed too! h e is also a graphics designer actaully its his full time job and is very very good at it.
regardless of who you use its a good idea to use some one who can help take yo to the next level.

keep seeking advice here onthe Café its a great place to learn.

Thank you for all of your help.

Like I said this was my first time designing a logo and I know it has a long way to go before I like it. I like to designs thing myself. It helps me get my creative juices flowing.

I want to start working restaurants and maybe corporate shows.

Sam thank you for the examples (might have to use some ideas)

I will be working on it more today, and I'll post something that I think might work. Also might be posting a new design for my business card too.

Thank you all for your help.

Thoughts on Logo design:

Many of you use a logo and may understand the importance of it as a weapon in your marketing tool box. But you may not know that the quality of your logo can mean the difference between success and failure of your magic marketing. It really can be that simple.

Logos make up the most recognizable and international language in all the world. Like magic, a good logo can be understood by most any culture or language no matter what country you live in. A good logo will communicate exactly what that company or product is all about and it will do this in a matter of seconds. We call this brand mark recognition.

For example: If you simply see the wavy swatch of the coke logo, you will immediately know it is Coke and that is a quality drink that quenches your thirst. You will recognize it even without the word Coke or Coca-cola even being there. Another good example of this is the Nike symbol. This is a logo that is recognized the world over as quality athletic products. You simply see the swoosh and know immediately what it stands for and what they are all about.

Good quality logos do this easily because they can cross many barriers and provide your magical service with a means of delivering to your customers a uniform message every single time. But, your logo must be a lot more then just a pretty mark on a piece of paper. Having the logo look good is not enough if it does not help represent your services to your intended market.

Keep in mind that often times your logo is the first impression a client may get of you and the services you want to provide to them. With this in mind, your logo needs to show professionalism, quality and value. Your logo should try and meet the following criteria:

- Does your logo identify you and your services to your intended market? Does it show your market exactly what magical services you are providing and offering to them?

- Does your logo distinguish you from others with similar services within your marketplace?

- Does it help you stand out from the crowd and show professionalism and quality?

- Does your logo show to your customers the quality of service you provide to them?
- When people see your logo, can they tell you provide a quality product simply because your logo mark shows that same quality and thinking?

Remember that your logo is a big part of your overall image. If your logo does not do some of these things that I mentioned above, then it is only working against you and your overall marketing plan. As much as a good logo can help you, a bad logo can really hinder your progress. If your logo is a hindrance, then it is time to think about updating it and possibly seeking some professional help to do it.

Your logo design really is that important to your overall marketing. Your logo is really a part of the foundation of your marketing and acts as a way to consistently send out the same quality message to each of your customers. It tells them the quality of your services and separates you from a huge number of similar services your customer may be confronted with on a daily basis.

I hope this has been some help to you and gives you a simple look at how important your logo really is and gives you some guidelines for which to see if your own logo measures up to what it should be.

PS: this is just a pet peeve of mine and is not meant to upset anyone or to come off as egotistical. I just always think that if you are not a graphic designer by trad eor have no background in professional design, you really should not try and do it yourself.

If you know nothing about being a mechanic, would you try and fix your own car? if you are not a doctor, would you try and perform surgery on your son? I know this is extreme, but your logo and brand identity is the one thing that is going to be a direct representation of who you are and what you offer. It is the one thing the prospect is seeing first. you want it to be professional and to communicate the proper way.

:;stands off the soap box:: lol =)

Very well said kyle I agree with just about everything there and discuss this many times in my lectures

I was going to bring inthe pint that his name might not actually be the logo as you pointed out the coke swoosh as their logo or McDonalds M is their logo.

sometimes its a name and sometimes its a picture but what ever it is as kyle poits out it must be memorable and easy on the eyes meaning to recognize it right away.

hey Kyle are you saying that becasue I did not go to a school or get a degree I should not do graphic design work?? I did however have 4 years of private training in graphic arts. I designed much of what is on my websites.
just curious.

you will get no argument from me that Kyle knows more then most as its his job to do so but kyle really some one with out a degree can't do some designing.
was my design that bad in your eyes??

by the way your comment about the mechanic and working onthe car I would say YES I would and I do all the time. and not jsut talking about changing the oil here either.
