I thought it would be cool to start a post where we could all give short tips. Mine is: Show tricks as though they weren't tricks.

It's not the method. It's the effect.
How many of you have gotten all excited about some new hip method only to find your audience didn't think it was any more amazing than the boring old method you used to use? And probably went back to.

One of my favorite magic sayings is one that Sol Stone has told me: If you labor like a mouse, and give birth to an elephant, that's magic; but if you labor like an elephant and give birth to a mouse, that's tragic.

All too often some magicians are so wrapped up with their latest magical acquisitions they forget what some famous magician once said, " It's not the device, it's the deceptionist or as Harry Blackstone Jr. once said, "Remember, your not your props, create the magic."

If you know one way to find a card and 40 ways to produce it- to the audience-you know 40 tricks.
If you know 40 ways to find a card and one way to produce it- to the audience- you know one trick. I heard that the first time at least 20 years ago- it still makes me smile.
