I like your reference terms Clay.
Rare in Commerce. Scarce in Commerce. Using those far more descriptive terms, the Erdnase Centennial Edition was actually Scarce in Commerce for three or four years. Perhaps it would have to be unavailable on the marketplace for 5 years in order to be Rare in Commerce? I also like how you've put into terms the concept that a book can be easy to get one year, and impossible to get the next. So perhaps the concepts of Scarce in Commerce and Rare in Commerce are flexible, and can often change over time? Thus leaving "rare" and "scarce" for descriptions of actual numbers of copies in existence rather than how often they come up for sale? |

Hi Bill (and others),
I was looking at this thread on Erdnase and you (Bill) mentioned Andy Greget's name. I located a number for him from Jamy Ian Swiss' website but the number is no longer working. I am trying to locate a hardback copy of Erdnase and have been having difficulty finding one for under $150 at the lowest. I'm fine paying what it's worth for it, but it seems you gentlemen are definitely more versed in this than I am based on the thread. Any ideas on how I can locate a copy of this (other than the $30 generic hardback Dover reprint)? Or do you have contact info for Andy Greget. I usually visit (and loiter!) his booth most often at Magi-Fest but that's several months away and I would love to contact him to see if he has any or knows where I can get a copy. Also, do you have any other recommendations for where I might be able to track down a copy? So sorry to hijack this thread but I wasn't able to send a non-reply PM. Thanks so much for your time ,everyone. Brett |

Yes, IMHO that's the advantage of using the "in commerce" modifier -- it's flexible and thus can take into account changes in the market, in which the availability of books can change rapidly over a few months. |
