Hi,
I'm looking for some suggestions for sources to learn and perform an effect in which I can make myself disappear. I was thinking of maybe using this at the end of my routine, as a sort of "grand leaving". Only thing is that it would help to make it be performeable as close-up as possible. I'm open and welcoming to other ideas as well |

Steve Fearson has a self-vanish illusion, but it has its restrictions. You can't perform it in all the close-up situations you are likely to come across and not everyone on the boards here, think it's practical. If you play to larger groups, it's probably not the effect for you.
(Self-vanishes have been discussed before, try the search engine and I'm sure at least one helpful thread -- with other suggestions will come up) |

This is why women are afraid of marrying a magician...

Although this might not be what you're looking for, I love to do the Disappearing Leg from Magic for Dummies (not sure about the title since I only own the German version) as a comedy bit. I say "As a magician, of course I'm working on making myself disappear, but unfortunatley I can't do it fully let, here check it out, this is how for I got.." and whistling the X-Files theme, I slowly vanish my leg. Maybe not for you. Another stupid gag to do with vanishing is one I do before I do any ring effect. I say "Do you know The Lord of The Rings? Do you know the ring this short fellow has? I always wanted to have one of those, but not because of the infinite powers it grants to its wearer, no, what's way cooler is that it makes you disappear.. imagine what you could do if you were invisible.. yeah exactly... So I tried building one, here look... only thing is, I must have made a mistake while constructing it because it only vanishes the part of the finger that goes in, look..." And quickly putting on the ring onto my stretched index finger, I make that part of the finger vanish and quickly pull the ring off again, re-appearing my finger and repeat one or two times...
Hmm... for some reason I only know gags about self vanishes... another one for the grand finale: "And now, ladies and gentlemen: The Disappearing Magician... (pause for oooohs and aaaaah) .. Please close your eyes and count to 500!" Sorry this is definately not what you're looking for, only a few chuckles, but I'm sure somebody will be able to help you out. Cheers, Ben |
