A while back, someone posted about using chicks as final loads for the cups and balls, and suggested using these new robotic chicks (see them here: http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/plush/a80f/ ). Unfortunately, I can't find the original thread, but I was wondering if anyone had purchased any of these chicks and what they thought of them. They look like they might be fun to use as a final load, and they look pretty realistic (they walk, flap their wings and chirp), but I was wondering if anybody could provide some insight on them. Are they easy to handle? How long do the batteries last? Are the easy to load/will they fit beneath a standard Paul Fox sized cup? Any help you guys could provide would be appreciated. I was thinking about picking some of these up, but I don't want to waste a lot of money if they aren't going to work.
Thanks, Travis

I don't think these walk. At least, the ad doesn't list walking as an attribute. I use a single wind up chick as one of my final loads, and it always gets a good response. Plus, it's a lot cheaper than this robotic one is. Easter is just around he corner, so these wind up ones should be easy to come by as well.

I have a wind-up baby chick, too. Probably, the same type as Payne's. The fact is, you don't need much to get a reaction out of the audience.
I don't have this product, but the two things I'd watch out for in the ad are: The size: 8 cm by 6 cm is very borderline for close-up style cups. 8 cm is actually pretty tall for a normal-sized cup. The other is the "Cries when it's not given attention!" line. The last thing I'd want in a final load is something that's making noise. Sorry, I can't be more help. Bill |

I got one of the "robotic chicks" about 2 years ago when they first came out. They don't really do much. They are not very realistic. A wind up toy would be much better. Save your money.

Ron Bauer's "Chick Trick" comes with a nice wind-up chick. I'll try to remember to measure it for you, but I bet it would fit.

Since it is around Easter time, hopefully Ill be able to find some wind-up chicks at Walmart or the Dollar Store. I guess I never really gave wind-up chicks a thought. I should have thought of them since I used to have a bunch of little wind-up toys. Sometimes the best answer is simple and cheap. Thanks for the help guys.

I wonder what people who don't understand magicians and the cups and balls think when they see a topic like this.

I havent been able to find any windup or fake chicks that will fit inside my PF cups. Ive found a lot that are 3 inches tall or bigger and all the "right-sized" ones seem to be sold out. I would like to find some chicks that are about 2.5" high and 2.5" wide so that theyll be able to fit into my copper PF cups. Either a windup chick or a faux chick would be perfect. If anyone knows where I could get some, let me know. Also, if anyone finds some windup chicks at a local store and would be willing to pick some up for me, please let me know. I am looking for something that has "feathers" similar to these:

BTW, just in case anyone is offended by the reference to blondes -- I'm just kidding. So if any of you blondes is offended when one of your friends reads this to you, remember, it's all in fun.

I think these days a Ferrari suggests something lacking in one's repertoire......
My ex-co-workers-parents-in-law had a little bouncing chicken guy, wind up, set off by a bump on the table, perhaps another option so that the little blighter's don't start speaking before their time...? -Anthony

Thought I had some for you but mine don't move. They have tiny contacts on the bottom so when placed in a hand it completes the circuit and they start chirping. $3 each
The ones which hop don't chirp. You could easily have one of these chirping birds to create sound while the wind ups hop about. |
