I 100% agree with you.
I did not say that youtube is the only way bla, bla. I also said: If no one that has some standing in the world of busking can verfy them as the real deal. If no other Busker has ever herd of them. A lot of other things have been said. (It has also been said Performers/buskers can verfy them) if not just get a secound opionon, whats the problem. What was not siad you must be well known or on Youtube to be a busker. I am not a festavel Busker ethier, I like to busk where no busker has busked before. Vee and I travel and live is a Truck most of the time I have been pitching since I was 14, and now busking for 18yrs. Had vides photage for less than 4yrs. If you think I am talking about youtube then you have missed the point. I am simply saying their are a very small few on hear who are claiming to be buskers but their feild of work is in a diffrent market of entertainment. Why they do this it beats me. You don't need me to tell you who, if it matters, just do a little home work and you will work it out for your self. I am also mistaken, it has been highlighted as problem on hear on a number of ocasions in diffrent ways but many of the folk on hear. Even the folk that have objected to what I have said have said simalar things them selfs in the alcaves. Billie, I would love to bump into you one day and buy yu a pint. Mario PS I am moving on, so perhaps look at the alcaves and check it out for your self's. Their are ton's of folk on hear that can clarfy what is and is not being said. |

During all of my work -- Renaissance Festivals, comedy clubs, trade shows -- you name it -- I had a strict prohibition of videotaping or otherwise recording my act. There is practically no video record of what I did, other than a few television cuts and a publicity video or two.
I have never sought a great deal of publicity. It's not in my nature. I had an invitation to audition at the Excalibur when it was going up, but the pay scale and work schedule was atrocious. I could make more money in a weekend doing a Renaissance Festival and passing the hat than I could have made in a month at the Excalibur. Interestingly, if I had taken that job at the Excalibur, I might have been dead now.

Yes, it is. Now go back and read my previous statement. Remember, I retired from the Renaissance Festival circuit in 2000. I retired from most other performing in 2005.
This was done at a wedding in 2009. Do the math.

They obviously did not want their acts ripped off, minutely analyzed for secrets, resold, or watched in rerun instead of being hired again. I think they also understood the power that live performance has over similar showings on film, video, or live TV. Sadly, that has changed with the newer crop of magicians. Now, it seems that many do not care what gets put on video. It doesn't strike me as a measure of success in the field. There have been some very excellent magicians working in all kinds of venues that rarely associate with other magicians, and are therefore little known in the industry. I hope there still are.

I learned this the hard way. When I was just breaking into professional performance, I had a friend who was a television producer who decided that I needed to be on a late night show he had on a local television station. I thought that the publicity would be great. So I did the show, and they gave me a video tape of it.
Unfortunately, the tape was in U-Matic format. This was the norm for television stations. I couldn't play it, so I took it to a place that I purchased high end stereo gear from. They agreed to make a transfer of it to VHS for a nominal fee. Several years later, I was at their place and one of them said, "Oh, yeah! I know who you are. We have a video tape of you that we play at our Christmas party every year. It's funny!" That really pi$$ed me off. For one thing, I was just getting started when I did that show, and some of the material wasn't as solid as it should have been. They basically stole my show from me and had me performing free at their parties. I haven't bought anything from them since that happened.

Yes kondini I agree! My bit was added because I feared that some people were THINKING that Mario Morris was suggesting you had to be on You Tube to give advise. I'm still a little uncertain of what it's actualiiy all about!

I hope I am not the imposter. I might be the biggest loser(that tries his hardest not to be one, takes care of his wife and mom, doesn't do drugs/alcohol and has never been to jail),but I sure don't pretend to be a real busker. I have given advice(once or twice) on performance or appearance but not on how to be a busker.
However, I am one of these guys who can't wait to summer so I can go out and street perform for the first time. In fact, you might even confuse me for a 16 year old virgin girl who just got asked out to the prom by the cute senior football stud. Yes, this is how excited I get!!!

Sorry, just had to add one more thing.
When talking to my wife or friends, I often use the names Jimmy,Mario, Gazzo and Cellini. Who the hell are these people they ask me(no offense) and why do you keep talking about them if you have never met them? Well, I talk about them because these are the people who are laying down the roots of the business that I have a passion for. I may never live the busking life, but I have been a magician at heart for 13 years now. One thing I can tell you, when I entertain people I try to give every magician, performer, and artist that I have learned from... justice. I am representing all of you, because this is our love and our art. I always tell my wife that I may die the best magician nobody has ever heard of, but it will not have been a wasted life

-i think its also important to remember this board is not a message board exclusively for the fully time buskers - but simply for those with an interest in the "serious art of busking".
I am not a busker but I AM magician and I Have busked at times (pro bally about 15-20 days total)but I don't think my lack of 1000's of busking hrs negates my right or ability to occasionally join in the discussions and here and share my thoughts. Readers know who is speaking from mass experience and who is not and thus they/we adjusts their "salt intake" accordingly. |
