Hi,
I am not sure where this should be posted but after looking in differentareas I have decided on here. I have several rubber thumbtips which over time from being carried in thepocket etc are now discoloured due to jeans etc. Does anyone know what I can use to clean these as I am tired ( and too cheap) to keep buying new ones. I have tried bleach but no luck. Any and all help would be appreciatied thank you. Michael |

You may want to try a product called (oddly enough...) Magic Eraser. It's made by Mr. Clean, and sold most any place where cleaning products are sold. Magic Eraser is a water activated micro scrubbing sponge that can be used on most surfaces. I've never used them on a thumb tip, but they work great on my tennis shoes!
Hope that this helps, Brian |

I have tried doap and water, haven't tried the magic eraser. I have that here so I will try and let you know if it works.

Someone suggested to me trying a product called GooGone. Have not tried it yet.

Well I used the magic eraser, well not quite the sponge but the same product. They have it in wipes and a spray so I let it soak after spraying it and then used a wipe on it. it helped but not perfect, it has a dark discolouring around the edge.

That gunge won't go away, sorry. There is something about that particular grime that is pernicious and incurable. Buy a new tt...

I prefer the Vernet plastic model, easily cleaned with soap and water.

I like the vinyl tips because they are fireproof, and less likely to split than the VGernets. (though the thinner Vernets, I find, are better for bills)
I've tried every cleaner known and none seem to work -- though you slow down the process as long as you don't keep the vinyl tips in the same pocket as your money. Marc |

Put in a sunny spot & let the sun bleach it clean.

Michael,
I must admit I've never tired solar power -- surely such star-magic will do the trick! Marc |

If you've tried the Mr. Clean, and it didn't completely work, I'd say just buy a new TT if at all possible. They're not that expensive, and it's probably worth your time just to get another one.

I like the vinyl tips because they are fireproof So are the Vernet tips. The fire, cigarette or match, goes out so quickly nothing burns or melts. If you worry about discoloration because of the ash, put a small piece of tin foil in the bottom. Better yet just tear a piece of of the cigarette pack. Vernet also has a really nice soft tip. The hard ones are good for bill switches etc. and the soft ones a re good for coins tricks where you need to get them back out of the tip. John |

Try Baking Soda. It seems to work well on tea and coffee stains.

It's worth the $10 or less for a new TT and gives you a great reason for a visit to your local brick and mortar shop ;-)
