Just a thought for those interested in beating exposure. That is, if you think it's a problem.
If every magician here would post one, 'or more', bogus magic tutorials on youtube it could, at the very least, complicate the process for laymen trying to find information. Just put up a heading called 'magic tutorial' or equivalent and when it comes time for the instruction, end the video. Or start explaining and end it at the crucial moment. Draw them in and string them along. Think about all the bogus videos that could be added and the frustration level encountered by laymen. Priceless! When you post a bogus video, give the link. This could be a wonderful thing. |

Was this taken from Theory11 or did you come up with it at the same time?
http://forums.theory11.com/showthread.php?t=26254 They at T11 are having a contest to get a bunch of people to make bogus tutorials too. |

Those who actually want the material already know where to find the product videos online.
Just be grateful that the internasties aren't taking those videos, editing them and adding new soundtracks - then posting such as parody clips - which would (sadly?) be protected under fair use laws.

Truly skilled magicians can fool a spectator with a DL an hour after the spectator saw it exposed. That's because they spend time becoming skilled at such things instead of trying to thwart non-existent enemies. It is my fondest hope that this project (and the one on Theory 11) fails miserably. As of yet I've not seen ANYTHING change one way or the other! I believe if those on such band wagons would spend half their time studying the craft and rehearsing their routines, they might find they become more entertaining and less apt to be sniped by their UTube viewing audiences! That's all I got to say about that........ *Forest Gump* MMc |

I have to agree, even though I found some of the anti-exposure videos hilarious. I've fooled some of my spectaters with doubles because, as steven said, I've spent time to make my double look like my singles, and too make it look natural.

The last sentence is not necessary, though, because such a project is already doomed, in accomplishing its aim anyway, notwithstanding a certain entertainment value. Right? I mean, really. Name one example of such a strategy succeeding in any way in the real world. I mean, you can find out how to make a hydrogen bomb on the internet, but as they say, good luck with that. To sum up this argument is Monty Pyhon's "How To Do It". Doing things well is hard, and in the end, YouTube won't help much - the secrets are not the secret. Ya know? Not to worry, folks. The only counter-example I can think of is the great physicist and mathematician, Theodor Kaluza, who learned to swim by reading a book on it, practicing the strokes he read about, standing in his room, and then he went and jumped in the ocean and swam. But that was Kaluza - far from your average guy. |

WOW, are you uptight. And Mickey, do you always have to ride Youell's coat tails? Regardless of what you say, it's obvious to anyone reading this thread that you responded to hostility with hostility. That's good news though because it makes you human. But it also proves my point. Look-- spend your time doing what you want. Make bogus videos so magicians can prove their smarter than other people. I don't really care what you do because it's not going to have any effect on me. I treat my spectators like my friends even when they give me a hard time. And for over 30 years, I've never had a show go south even when someone really, really wants to prove they know how it's done. The problem you so want to eliminate is, for me, not a problem. I have a solution that's been used by hundreds of others for longer than you've been alive-- both pros and amateurs. It's been tested and it solves the problem. Not only that, more often than not, it disarms hostility. But hey-- if making bogus videos so hecklers will look stupid is your solution, I wish you luck with it. I'm done with this discussion and hope that you are too. SEY |

I have seen a couple of these videos and they made me laugh. Bogus videos will not make them feel stupid, it will just frustrate them as it will take longer to find information. Now I'm done. |

I've never had a problem with youtube exposure. Not once have I ever had someone say they've seen any of tricks explained on youtube or that they're going home to look on youtube for the secret.
The only time I've had trouble with exposure was when a guy in the audience kept shouting out the climax and/or method to the tricks. Apparently his mate 'Liam' had told him all about it. And the kicker? His mate 'Liam' is a professional magician. If we can't trust our own to keep our secrets then who can we trust?
